Description
Hi there !i havent create an art for a long time, i had some ideas in head but i guess i am too lazy
Edit : edited shadow, i made this according to this image by nasa www.universetoday.com/wp-conte⦠it might look strange, but an eclipse really could create that kind of shape
Enjoy !

OOPS - there is a little graphical mistake in there! The starfield ends too early in front of the planet (on top of the picture)!
But the lens flare looks really cool!

Amazing job on this. I love the shadow casted on the planet, it looks great. All around stunning piece.

I at first also thought that the lights were stars, but after looking at them for half a second you realise they are really fine looking city lights, good work on that! Really like the eclipse too, really nice one pipper!

VERY nice work! The city lights don't seem to be a part of the planet for some reason though... Did you Spherize the city lights layer with the planet? or did you past it over the planet without any transformations??
-Maybe that's why it looks flat compared to the planet

GabrielGajdos In reply to Sniper115A3 [2011-08-17 09:22:57 +0000 UTC]
i dont know ... the base is 3D rendered, then i painted some part of it, and then i distorted it so it will look more spherized ... i dont know maybe i should have to create this one, i am hearing more negatives then positives, and you all are right

For a second there I thought you made the dire mistake of having stars visible through planets...I see now they're cities and good ones at that The glare of the sun looks nice too

Dude, this is amazing! You really did this from scratch? I love the terrain, and the sun's rather good. I have just one query: Why does the planet cast that shadow? Wouldn't it cover the edge of the planet instead of casting that oblong shape? Otherwise, great job, man.

GabrielGajdos In reply to Ish-maelatt [2011-08-17 09:03:53 +0000 UTC]
well i have some textures i use to create planet, but everything i do for myself and yea that shadow ... i gave a reference to nasa image i inspired also i made a simulation in 3D max ... so an eclipse really could create that shadow ... i am not saying it is 100% accurate, but in the basic it is good

CGSiino [2011-08-16 20:12:16 +0000 UTC]
I love it! ! My only problem is the shadow falling over the big planet.... seems a little odd IMO! Everything else looks spectacular!

GabrielGajdos In reply to CGSiino [2011-08-17 08:59:02 +0000 UTC]
it might look odd, but i tried to make it accurately to that nasa picture, and i made also a simulation in 3D max... but still it could be bad... and thanks

Awesome concept. The shadow of the eclipse the way the dark side of the planet fades to the point that you are almost unsure if those are city lights or stars.
This one has daily deviation written all over it.

looks really good
the only thing i don't like is that the city lights are over the clouds,
maybe you can fix that with an extra cloud map
