Quick comic I did to cheer up after hearing about the DC reboot/relaunch/imgonnabreakyourheartandeatittoo DC is doing. Based on thisFor those who don't know, the blonde is Stephanie Brown, current, and soon to be former, Batgirl. Barbara Gordon will star in the new Batgirl series, which will be released in September. :/
I have so many feelings about this. First of all, they are cancelling my favourite books and breaking up my favourite team. Not to mention than two of my favourite female characters (Cass and Steph) are in limbo. And I don't really want to get started on what I think about the whole "fixing Babs legs and making her Batgirl again" thing.
So I needed to do something positive. And nothing says positive like Steph and this drabble was the perfect inspiration.
Aaaand I'll stop there. Back to commissions.
Both characters belong to DC.

I agree. Babs finally comes into her own, out of Batman's shadow and as her own identity, after a horrific tragedy. And what's the first thing DC does with its relaunch? Erase Superman and Lois's relationship from ever having occurred-Lois doesn't even LIKE him now, in either identity-and kill off Ma & Pa Kent so that Clark has trouble relating to humanity. What; the second thing they do? Retcon Barb's paralysis so that every bit of character development she went through as Oracle is GONE.

They didn't retcon it. The Killing Joke is still in continuity.

Not what I meant. Babs' paralysis was permanent. There was absolutely no chance of her regaining the use of her legs, outside of prostheses (which J'onn offered. She turned him down). She finally had a chance to find her own identity outside of Bruce's shadow, and did. And flourished, far more than she EVER would have as Batgirl. Then the retcon made her paralysis only three years, and all the character development she went through as Oracle, to me, pretty much is null and void now.

Someone fucked up Cassandra Cain big time in a certain story arc, and DC hates Stephanie Brown almost as much as Capcom hates Mega Man.

THANK YOU! I'm glad I'm not alone. The Clark/Lois retcon was hands-down the thing that frustrates me MOST. Doesn't mean I'mma stop reading the comics, though; Superman was the first, and to my mind he's still the BEST. And at least they finally have Bruce and Selina getting it on. After 70-something YEARS!

I actually just recently found out about the new series when I was at Barnes and Noble and fangirled. Barbara was always my favorite character so I was really happy when I found out about her being able to walk again. Honestly, I don't know much about Stephanie and and Cassandra, only the basics. But I want to read their comics sometime. Stephanie should at least just become Spoiler again.

I'm upset... I mean, they originally had a plan to reinsert Steph into the DCnU as Spoiler once again but for some reason it was scrapped...

It feels almost as if Stephanie Brown is getting gradually pushed out of the DCU...which is depressing, because she's awesome. Barbara is great too, but she played a unique role as Oracle.
