Quick comic I did to cheer up after hearing about the DC reboot/relaunch/imgonnabreakyourheartandeatittoo DC is doing. Based on thisFor those who don't know, the blonde is Stephanie Brown, current, and soon to be former, Batgirl. Barbara Gordon will star in the new Batgirl series, which will be released in September. :/
I have so many feelings about this. First of all, they are cancelling my favourite books and breaking up my favourite team. Not to mention than two of my favourite female characters (Cass and Steph) are in limbo. And I don't really want to get started on what I think about the whole "fixing Babs legs and making her Batgirl again" thing.
So I needed to do something positive. And nothing says positive like Steph and this drabble was the perfect inspiration.
Aaaand I'll stop there. Back to commissions.
Both characters belong to DC.

I felt indifferent about Steph (mainly because I haven't really read that much comics with her in it) but you made me fall desperately in love with her. I wish to squish her cheeks. And those of her Nightwing plushie as well.

I feel the same way you do about the relaunch. It's so depressing when it seems like the only things they deem unfit to continue are all the parts that I love (Steph and Cass being the biggest). Sucktastic.

I did my own "coping picture" in response to the changes, but I like this one much better. You really captured Stephanie's voice and personality here, reminding me why I've come to love her so much and why I'll miss her badly when she's gone. Panel six is great, and "I can hear you frowning" is classic Steph/Babs interaction. Thanks for the smiles!
PS: You know, if DC were to put something like this in the back of the new Batgirl book as a regular feature, like Audrey Loeb's "Red Hulk, Green Hulk, Blue Hulk" strips, is would definitely make the new series a little easier to swallow.

I have some things to say about Steph and Cass presently being in limbo as far as the "new universe" is concerned:
1) The anxiety about not knowing about their future is a distinctly Not Nice At All Feeling. Boo.
2) Gail Simone says if no one is using them, she will. Yay!
3) Suggestion: BATGIRL, INC. Coz we know the girls can do it better than the boys can.

I still don't get why they feel the need to ignore twenty plus years of character development and shove Babs back into being Batgirl. Why not give Oracle Babs back the use of her legs and develop a new identity from there if they're going to change anything? Why not do what they seem to do with the Robins and give her a new suit and title?
The comic was adorable. Babs being exasperated with Stephanie is just cute.

I've got some very mixed feelings on this whole "reboot" business. On one hand, it'll be cool to see what new ideas the writes can bring to the comics. plus, I'm in the camp of people who want to see Babs as Batgirl again. Besides, this isn't the first time DC has done this, like back in the 80s there was Infinite Crisis on Infinite Earths. On the other hand, I really just know started to get use to and enjoy the new status quo of the DC universe, and now they're just tossing all these great new characters and ideas out the window, totally not cool.
Regardless of all this, I love this comic! Its so funny, and I could honestly sort of see this happening somehow in an actual comic.
