Quick comic I did to cheer up after hearing about the DC reboot/relaunch/imgonnabreakyourheartandeatittoo DC is doing. Based on thisFor those who don't know, the blonde is Stephanie Brown, current, and soon to be former, Batgirl. Barbara Gordon will star in the new Batgirl series, which will be released in September. :/
I have so many feelings about this. First of all, they are cancelling my favourite books and breaking up my favourite team. Not to mention than two of my favourite female characters (Cass and Steph) are in limbo. And I don't really want to get started on what I think about the whole "fixing Babs legs and making her Batgirl again" thing.
So I needed to do something positive. And nothing says positive like Steph and this drabble was the perfect inspiration.
Aaaand I'll stop there. Back to commissions.
Both characters belong to DC.

The reboot kinda sucks when it kicked some of my favourite characters like Wally West and Cassandra Cain. And they disregarded the Superman/Batman event of meeting Supergirl and I absolutely hate that since Batman had as much influence over Supergirl's arrival as Superman. There better be some letters of complaint cause this reboot seriously doesn't bode well.

yet to read new batgirl but I don't like this idea, babs should stay oracle and steph was finally coming into her own
other batbooks of the reboot seem to be ok though, batwoman being a personal favorite although mainly because of the art

2) On Bab's Paralysis, or as I liked to call it "No Effin' Way" Here's my argument: DC means to tell me that in a world that is occupied with super science far exceeding our own and all-powerful magics and supernatural beings with god-like powers -yes, freakin' do anything, anything at all, actual MAGIC- that no one, NO ONE CAN OR COULD HAVE FIXED BAB'S LEGS?! I completely agree with you. The DC reboot is horrible. But I think I've found one upside: Lian Harper isn't dead. Well, not yet. Who knows. But it looks like the new Roy is younger, so maybe DC is rebooting it to before they killed off Lian. Otherwise, it's horrible.

My sister introduced me to comics when I was starting high school, then got stuck in a wheelchair, and Babs saved her life (and, given how close we are, probably mine, in one way or another) by setting an example, and dealing, and making her feel like she was still amazing. And now the company that I've fangirled and loved and given time and money to is just... writing it off, like it was all a mistake, and "oops, sorry, we're just gonna take that all back", and I just can't deal with it. I want to give this reboot a chance, but I can't. It kills me every fucking time I think of it, and I know my sister's been crying about it, because Oracle is our personal hero, and I feel like I've been punched in the gut.
And, god, the other character I've always identified with is the young dad who wasn't ready but is doing his best, and now they've taken Lian away, and she's never existed.
I know I shouldn't be ranting here, but I got thinking about it and now I can't stop. *hugs Babs* Pleasepleaseplease let them drop these new titles in a year and go back to the old stuff, please...!

So, um... Rambling ahead. Your fanart made me want to read DC comics. Today I've read the first issues of Stephanie's run as Batgirl and I must say, I love her. She's fun, quirky, resilient, strong-willed and everything girls should want as a role model (though Barbara and Cass are also awesome in their own right). In the fourth issue, a little girl even whispers in her ear "keep up the good work".
And this comic really does justice to Stephanie and Barbara's relationship, something that I hope DC will not take away from us, it is bad enough that Stephanie and Cass are getting benched for the time being...
In short: I love it. Keep it up!

Is there any official statements/articles from DC stating why they're doing this? I'm very troubled and confused by the whole thing. I'm just getting 'caught up' to the current Dynamic Duo and I'd truly hate to see all the plot progress made over so many years just 'reset' like the characters' growth never happened.

Here's hoping Steph (maybe as Spoiler?) gets a team-up with Cass (Black Bat). That would be awesome. I'd even handle the occasional Red Robin and Nightwing team-up.

What's wrong with just telling a good story WITHOUT having to reinvent the universe every fucking summer becasue someone wants to draw a BLONDE Bruce Wayne or break up the marriage of Lois and Clark--OH YEAH! They're breaking up one of the most famous comic book marriages in the retcon as well. WHY!? It didn't work for Spiderman, why would it work now?! Who is demanding this!
