Description
I am a member of a medieval recreation group called the Society for Creative Anachronism. Almost a year ago, a friend of mine in the SCA was honored with Knighthood, and I was asked to make the award scroll which would document his new rank. When I joined over twenty years ago, I became interested in the illumination and calligraphy found in Irish manuscripts, in particular the Book of Kells... so much so, that I have done a series of paintings based on those motifs, as can be found in the rest of my gallery. But, while I am happy with how my paintings have developed, there is something very satisfying in creating a large work incorporating many elements; calligraphy, illuminated capitals, large-scale illuminations, and page composition.Related content

Thank you. I've developed a lot of the style and motifs for my contemporary paintings, but I enjoyed the opportunity to to do a more involved and traditional piece.

You're welcome! Did you ever tried this kind of art on a vector program? Is quite easy when you get the feel of it. To me is quite useful, because I trace the design at work with a tracing plotter & and then gild & handpaint it.
The biggest advantage is that it's easy to repeat if you mess it!
