Description Spinosaurus's 'new look' is not without criticism, owing mainly to its reconstruction's diagram not tallying with the supplied dimensions.Β  Spinosaurus has never had an easy ride.Β  Poor thing.

I find Spinosaurus far more interesting after its "makeover" than I did before. I mean, come on - a truly amphibious dinosaur! Also, just imagine beingΒ some poor animal stuck in a Cretaceous river, seeingΒ that sail cutting through the water towards you like a shark's fin, the only harbinger of the leviathan hidden lurking beneath the waves.

Spinosaurus still being awsome!
These legs are still big enough to make it able to walk on two and it's semi-aquatic lifestyle only made it cooler to me.

OK, first it goes extinct, then most of its fossils are turned to sand, then the one fossil we discover gets mis-reconstructed (though Stromer somehow guessed at an aquatic lifestyle), then it blown up during WWII, then everyone forgets about it, then JPIII pushes it into the public eye but everyone hates it for no reason, then every single pop-culture depiction of it is inaccurate (MB grossly overrated it, PD underrated it-so it can kill a 3 ton predator but not a 1.5 ton herbivore?). And now it gets so bad two palaeontologists and even National Geographic screws up, and then we get even more haters and fanboys, and then multiple arguments across all dinosaur fans, paleo-enthusiasts and palaeontologists.Β

Someday, the accurate image of this beast-which I can see in my eyes-would come to light. And no one will ever call it a "mere"aquatic fish-eater. (Deinosuchus, great white sharks, bald eagles, polar bears, orcas, green anacondas, saltwater crocodiles and snapping turtles also mostly eat fish. That doesn't make them weak.)

I have to say, I feel real bad for Spiny. I understand that people love an intimidatingΒ carnivore and considering that its the biggest, they want him to be the most intimidating. But people need to accept that life and science doesn't work that way. Now there may be a chance that the legs may have belonged to a juvenile like every skeptic believes, I don't know, I didn't find the leg bones, but until more evidence is found that supports either side, we have to accept Spinosaurus for what we do have and know about him, and what we have for him is an interesting and amazing creature. Can't everyone, whether we accept the new look or not, agree to at least that?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GaffaMondo In reply to UltraZilla95 [2015-04-26 12:19:02 +0000 UTC]
