Description
“I can’t take it anymore!”Bree had finally had enough. Even though she and her big sister Lee signed up to become Merchants recently under the name of Team Wooden Grove, they haven’t even done any missions yet. All they did was hang around on the tree branches of their makeshift home in the forest surrounding Tao Village. True, being a pair of Treeckos had its benefits when it came to finding inexpensive, suitable housing. True, they got to meet a lot of friendly new neighbors and observe the town from their perches. But the truth was…it was winter. In fact, it was winter ever since they arrived two months ago, and though they knew it was supposed to get cold at that time of year…what was with all the snow?
“Aww, c’mon, Bree. You know it’s too cold to go out,” yawned Lee. Her skin tone was of a darker green than her sister’s.
“That’s what you’ve always said! For every single day ever since we freakin’ GOT here! Can’t we at least do a mission or something? We have to make a good impression on Miss PK and Mr. Shroomsworth, you know. And besides, if we do something, we can warm up…”
Bree’s reasoning was interrupted by another of her sister’s yawns. “No thanks…wake me up when the snow’s gone, okay?” Lee tucked her head back in the hollow of the tree and tried to get back to sleep.
At that point, Bree really wished she was the official team leader. If she was, she would be able to run off on her own without Lee constantly worrying about her. But she wasn’t, so apparently, it was her responsibility to drag Lee out of bed and see what the heck was going on in town for once.
“Lee! We are NOT hibernating anymore! WAKE…UP!”
She yanked on Lee’s tail—hard—and sent them both falling out of the tree.
“AAAAaaAAAAaaaAAAAAH—!”
Lee managed to grab onto another tree branch just before they hit the ground, though. Not that it would have hurt by that much—there was a bush and a load of snow beneath them—but it wouldn’t have been pleasant.
“Okay, Bree! Sheesh! We’ll go check out the town, do a quick mission, and then come back and sleep in until all this stupid snow is gone! Happy now?”
Bree grinned in relief. “Yes, Lee.”
The two Treeckos swung through the forest and landed almost in the middle of Tao Village. Almost no one seemed to notice, though, since they were all running around excitedly for some reason or another.
Except for the great big ice dragon sitting on a mattress on the town’s fountain, that is.
“HELLO. WHO MIGHT YOU BE?” For a guy whose voice boomed in an ancient manner, he managed to make himself sound surprisingly gentle at the same time.
“AAAH! Don’t eat us!” Bree hid behind Lee in terror.
“Relax, Bree. He was here when we got here. I’m sure he’s a nice guy…” She then looked up at the towering dragon. “Right?”
“THAT IS CORRECT. I AM MERELY HERE TO HELP GIVE ADVICE TO THOSE WHO NEED IT, AS PER WHAT I WAS REQUESTED BY THE PURPLE KECLEON.”
“The purple Kecleon…Hey, you mean Miss PK!” gasped Bree. “She’s our boss! How did she—
?”
Lee interrupted Bree and explained, “Wow, that’s cool! Anyway, I’m Lee, and this is my little sister, Bree. We’re the newest Merchants, Team Wooden Grove!”
“That’s what I was about to say…” groaned Bree.
Lee ignored her and straightened up. “So who are you?”
“I HAVE NO NEED FOR A NAME. THE PURPLE KECLEON, AMONG OTHERS, CALL ME ‘SORBET’, AND A CERTAIN OTHER INSISTS ON CALLING ME BY MY SPECIES NAME, ‘KYUREM’.”
Bree tried to stifle laughter. “Sorbet?? Seriously? Wow, I didn’t know Miss PK…I mean…”
Lee thought hard. “Hmm…Kyurem sounds cooler. I wonder who this ‘certain other’ is…” She shook her head. “Anyway, enough about that. Any missions we can take right now?”
“ACTUALLY…” Kyurem shook his head. “THE PREVIOUS MISSION HAS LONG SINCE BEEN OVER. RIGHT NOW, WE ARE INSTEAD PREPARING FOR MY BIRTHDAY PARTY.”
“Aww, C’MON!” shouted Bree in outrage. “And after all I did to drag Lee out of bed and all the way down in this super-cold—wait. You have a birthday party?”
“YES. IF YOU LIKE, YOU CAN HELP OUT.”
Lee looked around. Everyone seemed to be busy with other various things…mostly that of buying gifts from PK’s shop and having fun in the snow. But a number of others were on the rooftops, working on stringing some lights around the buildings. “What should we do?” she asked.
“PERHAPS YOU CAN ASSIST TEAM PECHA OVER THERE. YOU SAID YOU WERE INTERESTED IN THE CERTAIN OTHER WHO CALLS ME ‘KYUREM’? JUST ASK THEIR LEADER.” He pointed to a Jigglypuff and a Chikorita on the rooftop of the green Kecleon head-shaped Merchants’ guild itself.
“All right!” Bree smiled. It looked like this trip wouldn’t be a total waste after all.
“Why don’t you just tell us who it is?” asked Lee.
“IT IS…AH…COMPLEX. YOU SEE, THE PURPLE KECLEON INSISTS ON EVERYONE CALLING ME ‘SORBET’, SO…I FIGURED I SHOULD BE DISCREET ABOUT SUCH INFORMATION.”
Lee’s eyes widened. “Wow…Guess we shouldn’t make Miss PK mad, then. Anyway, thanks, Mr. Kyure—I mean, Sorbet! See you around!”
“ENJOY YOUR TIME HERE, YOUNG ONES.”
When they were sure they were out of earshot of him, Bree let out a sigh of relief. “At least he didn’t eat us.”
“Aw, c’mon, Bree. I knew he wouldn’t.” Lee patted Bree on the back in reassurance.
