Gameplay: A four-player Donkey Kong experience.

Plot: Donkey Kong and King K. Rool sign a peace treaty that Cranky Kong has made, only for the Kremiens, a Kremling-like race of aliens led by Emperor A. Lien, to capture both Donkey Kong Island and Crocodile Isle using high-tech lasers and space chains to abduct both islands. Now, Donkey Kong and King K. Rool must work together to defeat the Kremiens and Emperor A. Lien with the help of Diddy, Dixie, Cranky, Funky, Candy, Kiddy, Lanky, Tiny, and Chunky.

Other: For the first time since Donkey Kong 64, Chunky Kong makes a grand return. And for the first time since Mario Super Sluggers, players can play as King K. Rool. In addition, players can switch between Donkey Kong, Funky Kong, Chunky Kong, and King K. Rool, each with their own unique abilities. While retaining the side-scrolling aspects, the game features unique gravity mechanics like Super Mario Galaxy. Plus, for the first time since Donkey Kong Country 3, Kiddy Kong returns as a playable character, and Swanky Kong returns for the first time in years, now running Swanky's Bazaar, which is similar to Cranky's Shop in DKCR and Funky's Shop in DKCTF.
