This has been a bit long overdue. Some 'Super Mario Bros. Z' fanart.
In case you've never heard of the greatest thing ever, 'Super Mario Bros. Z' (aka SMBZ) is made by Mark Haynes, better known as his online username Alvin-Earthworm. It's a sprite animation from the mid 2000s where Sonic and Shadow wind up in Mario and Luigi's world to stop this major threat.

The series is a bit wonky at its pacing and occasionally the character writing, but the whole series is still stellar and its fights and set pieces are some of the best I've ever seen. It defined a whole generation of people on the internet, setting standards in choreography, sprite animation and maybe even writing.
I know I said the writing is a bit iffy at times, but the over arching story is truely quite unique, even among fan fictions.
I could go on, but I hold SMBZ very dear to me and is still to this day, my favourite thing on the internet.

The original series sadly was dropped in the early 2010s due to various reasons, but since then, we not only got a 4K remaster of the original series (youtu.be/O6zkGU3-OVI ), but Mark has also started doing a reboot of the whole thing.
Upped production values, better writing and pacing, and I cannot wait to see how this saga unfolds. It's basically a one-man team, so episodes come out infrequently, but that doesn't matter to me.

I've been gushing about SMBZ this whole time and not even talked about the above picture.
As I said, SMBZ has some stellar set pieces. Some obvious ones are *spoilers* Super Mecha Sonic and Fire Sonic. But those are the easy choices. Instead, I wanted to go for a different cool set piece.
And my choice was the raid on the Omega Doomship from Episode 8.

The idea of Bros Team Attacks, but Sonic-ified was used a few times in the past, but this was definitely the coolest. Racoon Mario flying Sonic over the front of the Doomship and then swinging him to bash enemies out of the way.
God, SMBZ was so cool.
