Background on the character:

Layla is a 24 year woman with no middle or last name, having been raised on the streets by parents who had lost their heritage during their own childhoods. She survived as many faceless citizens did, by stealing and scavenging, and surviving the horrors that they would inflict on one another. At fourteen, Layla was selected to be the next wife of Neimadia's eight thousand year old leader: the Primarch, Gannadene.

Now, she is locked into the highest tower of her husband's palace. Gannadene has never touched Layla, nor spoken to her. In fact, no one has heard him speak since the year they were married. For all intents and purposes, she is still unmarried; some say, a widow without a corpse to bury.

Her early days were spent in reeducation. She lost some of what had made her a vagrant, and was forced to become something akin to a princess. Now she lingers between both worlds, a prisoner to her castle, unable to change her life. The only thing of merit she brought with her from her days as an unwilling student were her singing lessons, which she associates direly with the daily miseries she witnesses from her windows, committed by the same people she left behind.

What few family and friends she once had are dead or lost, and the only people to interact with her now are servants and politicians. She has developed a personality others find awkward, as a result of her twisted upbringing.

Her dream is to escape the palace, and try to keep anyone from living either of the two kind of lives she has lived. Once Reklaw arrives and grants her this wish, she's left with a question she cannot answer: how to make her world a better place.
