Description After seeing all these F-22 images these last two to three weeks it was rather annoying knowing I wouldn't be able to get over to a airfield less than 45 minutes away. Luckily, I got a day off work at short notice and went after them. Would the weather hold, would they even fly or would they operate off the wrong runway and mess up the photo opportunities? For once...no...nailed them! More to follow.

I've never seen one with drop tanks before.  Nice photo of it!

Hi,

They rarely carry them unless deploying in a ferry condition as carrying tanks takes away the stealth capability of the jet. For most of the time they were removed while here for the exercise but a couple were fitted on Thursday during routine flights, not sure why but they are leaving this weekend so they may have started to fit the tanks early. Note the small object fitted under the fuselage between the main undercarriage legs? That's the device that masks the aircrafts true stealth capability and is also required to generate a radar trace for ATC during peacetime training.
