Short version: a Zygon is an alien able to take on the form of another. Basic shapeshifter. They're also able to turn other beings into Zygons.
I suggest the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor to see Zygons in action. They're a relatively obscure alien from the Doctor who mythos, appearing only once before in 1975 during the Fourth Doctor's tenure.

For fucks ssake dude, THINK about what you just did. Zygons have NO powers, no magic. In other wrods, no means to actually imitate and combat the ponies.
The only mimic physical form. ONLY mimic it. They cannot mimic powers. This fucker is about as much a threat as a toddler is against gregor The Mountain. Why did you not think of that fact? How come that fact the zygons re pretty damn weak, thus reliant on deception, could in fact capture or imitate ponies?
Literally, anyone in this room could overpower that zygon like he was a toddler. Kill him like a damn rabbit. The whole red changeling war would ahve been as one sided as fuck. ALLLLLL of this is just contrived bullshit at this point.

the first counter point doesn't work because magic is not some biological function that he zygons could replicate. considering the fact soemthign as abstract as friendship is the msot powerful form of magic, and harmony, i highly doubt ponies have a magic organ or something. or there is a chemical ement for harmony.
also magic causing mutation is a human in equestria excuse to make the human inexplicably op and stronger than celestai or something.

Dude, freaking THINK here. Zygons have no powers. Zygons only imitate physical form. Ponies as a specides ahve magic, have powers, have abilities that not only could the zygons not dael with, they would be INCAPABLE of imitating.
So how does it make any fucking sense that these guys could have taken over when they have NO real means of combating the ponies nor imitating them?
Seriously man, this is just stupid. It takes only a bit of research on zygons and a few seconds of thought to realize the gaping, enormous flaw with all of this.

1 this comic creating plot-holes would be no fault of the show.
2 a zygon is capable of all the things the being they turn into is capable of.
3 carry on from 2, magic is a natural capability of unicorns and alicorns, so a zygon who turned into a unicorn or alicorn would also have those capabilities.
4 you supremely underestimate how powerful of a thing time-travel is.
