technically it is. They have very similiar methods and the technical definition of a Changeling in fiction matches up prettty well with the zygons.

maybe because the idea of actually putting them in here is the an immensely foolish and idiotic move.
basically this zygon appearing is like a toddler entering a room full of The Mountains. Because zygons do not have power outside of shapeshifting and organic technology. The ponies allll have far greater powers.
Fuck, changelings have far greater power because they ahve shapeshifting and some unicorn like magic.
So basically that whole 'war' would have ended very one sidedly indeed. Because the zygons are nowhere near powerful enough to combat the ponies.

okay so this is a full whovian crossover.
I now see why they were called red changelings.
And now I know why the doctor said the resistance
should have been discovered by now.
Zygon pods synch the mind of the captive and their Zygon.
the resistance has been long infiltrated by a Zygon but has remained hidden.
Twilight uses Zygon pods to imprison captives.
meaning when Twilight "won" the war against the red changelings 7 years ago
she actually lost, and was replaced by their leader instead.
Twilight is still held captive, specifically in the giant pod on page 129
so that the leader of the Red can have access to her memories.
Night Star of the resistance seems to be a Rogue Zygon
she has been legitimately helping the Resistance
and is against the actions of the Red Twilight.
and is working towards peace between Zygon and Pony
if such wasn't the case, Twilight would have found the resistance years ago.
the prophecy stated "Twilight will not outlive her friends."
Theory 1. they will defeat Red Twilight, and the Zygon invasion army
They will make a peace with the peaceful Zygons.
they will find Twilight when they free the ponies from the Zygon pods.
Sadly, Twilight will be very weak from 7 years being held captive
She will get to see her friends and maybe enjoy one last party before dying at the end of the story
the epilogue will follow Twilight's Funeral, Spike taking over the throne,
and the Mane 5 returning to the Past, in time to celebrate another Birthday with Twilight.
Theory 2, unless the prophetess was a time traveller [rose also has vanilla fur]
and told prophecies to maintain causality, preventing a paradox
the Previous prophecies had to come true to build a reputation
the last prophecy could have been told to preserve causality
it may not actually be a true prophecy.
in which case Twilight might outlive her friends still.
theory 3. the prophecy only says Friends
for the prophecy to be true only two maybe only one of them actually have to live longer than twilight
it also makes no mention of names, Friends includes the mane 6,
but also includes Spike an immortal dragon, and any other friends she has made or will make the acquaintance of.
she is the Princess of Friendship after all, if she keeps making new friends,
even after old friends die, she'll never outlive her friends, as long as she is still making friends.
it also doesn't mention temporal differential,
just because the friends are still alive, doesn't mean Twilight gets to continue living.

Except the zygons have no ability to capture or overpower something like twilight, let alone fuckin ponies.
You are missing the crucial detail that is, zygons have no magical attributes. They have no power outside of their shapeshifting abilities.
Literally, this guy would die in only a few seconds. Any single pony in this room, could kill him, and they have spike here.
How are non of your taking in this fact?
Fuck, if twilight was a zygone, she would be incapable of contorlling the wolf golems no using magic. CAUSE SHE WOULD NIT HAVE MAGIC!!!!!

takes on a form and abilities relatable to that universe.
the Doctor isn't a Humanoid he's become a pony.

I just read that like technical details a prophecy doesn't bother with.
And because a zygon uses memories of the captive, a zygon twilight knows them as her friends.

because Red Twilight has memories of them.

it was just my "tongue-in-cheek" opinion about how the author could resolve the prophecy and make a "happy end" to the story.
I don't mean they are real friends to the bad twilight, but just it would be a convenient way to make the story goes round. A good'old trope I would say
"oOOOh that was what the prophecy meant. That is a doozie." Pinkie Pie could say

You have read this comic right? The twilight of this time doesn't act anything like the twilight they know, which could easily be marked off as having changed in the past 1000 years. The journals and letters would be more than enough to pose as a twilight thats changed.

after fighting the red changelings 7 years ago.
she then had a large number of ponies executed
under the claim they were red changelings.
it was a sudden suspicious change
and Spike himself, her closest friend,
couldn't tell she'd been replaced.
He still hasn't clued in that it isn't Twilight,
even after 7 years of civil war.
Red Twilight wouldn't have had time to read the journals or letters
between fighting Twilight, and seeing Spike back at the castle,
before starting the purge.
there was no time to read the journals.
she stole Twilight's memories, to pass as the original.
because especially with red changelings,
spike and twilight would have had a pass phrase.
similar to Twilight and Cadance nursery rhyme "Sunshine and Ladybugs"

You do realize that this makes no fuckin sense, right? Here is the issue....... zYgons have no fucking powers. They are utterly reliant on shapeshifting. And the difference between ponies and humans, is that ponies have powers.
Spells, super strength, weather manipulation.
In other words a zygon trying to subdue a pony would be like a toddler trying to subdue hulk hogan. They are trying to overpower soemthing that they have a steep disadvantage over.
So litearlyl, if all these guys were zygons, that means the fem stallion and the peagsus would NOT have been overpowered at all. They would ahve kicked theri asses compeltely, cause literally, they would not have the powers inherent in ponies at all.
