Ha!!
Having been a test dum.....er volunteer at the Army Arctic Test Center in Alaska my final two years of service I know what she is going through.
Reminds me of validating body armor in sub zero cold soak.
"Here put this on.......now turn around......" BANG
Bastard shot me in the chest with a 45.
"Yep. I guess it will work in the cold. Hey...how do you feel?"
Me........"owwwwccchhh! You son of a.......!!!!"

Back in 73 body armor was kind of new. We had the flak jacket but it was useless against bullets. So when the Kevlar stuff was coming out they saw potential to stop both shrapnel and small calibers.
They knew about the warm weather usage but Arctic cold at 40 below was different. I found out later they knew it would stop the bullet so what was unknown was the effect on the wearer at the sub zero mark. Things flexible in warm can get very brittle in sub zero. It was the main purpose of the Arctic Test Center I did my last two years at 73 to 75.
We did other crazy things in the extreme cold. If I was part of the test subjects I was about as an observer or many times rescue or recovery of some piece of equipment that broke in the cold.
Seen hot coffee vaporize when tossed into 35 below air. Running Diesel engines freeze up while running due to the oil going solid or the fuel turning to goo. Fired a tank round across a lake which promptly froze as the ripples went across. Coldest I ever saw was at the Bolio test site. A depression with a small lake at the bottom.
87 below zero F actual temp.
You had to wear a cold mask to breathe as a deep inhale would freeze your mouth.
Winter saw less than four hours of twilight.
But the summers were beautiful only four hours of evening. Warm and comfortable.
Just out last the mosquitos and flies.

"Running Diesel engines freeze up while running due to the oil going solid or the fuel turning to goo"

What?!!

But... how?! If the engin is running and therefore producing heat, how can it happen?

This is mind-boggling stuff for me.

The diesel fuel would turn to the consistency of very thick goo. The fuel pump could not move it. 30 weight engine oil was thick a peanut butter. Below zero air made a running engine cool enough to lay your hands on the block. The air literally sucked the heat out of it. It the laws of thermodynamics. Now this only happens in extreme cold. Sub 25 and further. Our engine oil for an unprotected engine no thermal blankets was at room temperature the consistency of water. At 20 below it equals 30 weight. My M88 tank used an air cooled engine. I used 10 weight in the extreme cold 25 or lower without the air intakes closed. Mostly I sealed the airflow intake screens. That way the engine heat stayed in so I could use 30 weight oil. But could never shut off the engine. If it got cold it would not crank over to start.

A lot of military forces use that for training. Like a trust fall but with a bullet and body armor.
