Awkward moment....."our real enemy are officers"
All too true......but I knew a few who were.......worthy of following.
And a few I would have liked to leave out there.......blaming enemy action.

It's their bad decisions that can get men killed. Not all men can lead.
It's not meant to be mean to officers. Just the jerks who seeing the awful situation won't listen to a way of dealing with it. Actual experience. You don't headlong attack a machine gun emplacement. I knew an officerwho whi ordered us to do that. Why? He said they were afraid of you. They may fear me, yes, but they got a honking big ass gun to shoot at me. How about we go around and flank them, artillery maybe, I got this M79 and a pouch full of HE 40mm??
Nope he ordered charge......not a man moved.
We followed the Sarge around and three 40mm later the position was pacified.

Oh, that ...
Well, I guess every armed forces has its share of sometimes good-willing, but still quite incompetent persons.

That officer's attitude is so clichΓ© it could be used as an example of what not to do.

Hopefully, he learnt from this event.

Did he?

I tell you, some officers that fresh out of academy or ROTC course are mere better than newly arrived private XD

Nope. In fact he complained to the Capt. Wanted us punished. He got removed from leading combat patrols in the end. We got a new Lt. First thing he said was you help me. Let's all get through this. He would listen to reason and experience.
That is the sign of a good leader. We may still have to do it his way as that may be the only way but at least we worked it out together. Yes even officers die but try not to.

Removed from combat patrols?
That was a good decision from whoever took it, then.

"That is the sign of a good leader."

It looks every bit like it, indeed.
