Description
So my third painting assignment had to do with my personal account and a response to the Wallace Stevens poem Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird. To be perfectly honest the poem itself is rather abstract and fragmented and it confused me a lot at first, but after breaking it up and focusing on certain parts that spoke to me (along with a fair amount of research on different people's perspectives on the piece of writing), I was able to pull together a theme I really liked.ΒThis piece has to do with how people forget or neglect to appreciate the things around them that matter and the guilt one feels when they realize it.
I'd love any critique you might have about it!

Oils on 42x 52" canvas
Edit: Thank you all so much for the DD and the appreciation! It feels so surreal!

The time piece floating. The top of the blackbird sitting down on the far ends head - I thought it was a bowler hat for the longest time! you've really done it, this is a lovely piece - Your skill with Oils in it is really evident. Good work, mate!

I love the blocky look to the shading- it gives the painting a lot of volume and depth. Everything looks so three dimensional. You did really well with the emotion too; even in the characters that don't have visible faces, the body language tells us all we need to know.Β

She's so nice, right? She came back for me a second time when I decided to redo half of the canvas' perspective!

This is reminiscent of James Jean's work for the Fables graphic novel series, but there's something I can't place that sets it apart. With that said, this is one of my favoritest of favorites on DA. Gavi-gavi is right up there with JJ and that is awesome.
