In real life, if we were side by side, I'm sure I'm the one who would look like a kindergartner. I'm pretty short

well if your into Bull Gods then i gotta assume that you are a big fan of the constellation Taurus and that you like the Kid Rock song called Bull God which is off his first CD.

I would all-so think that you would be a big fan of the Guardian of the Great Greek Labyrinth all-so known as The Minotaur.

GavinMichelli In reply to MultifacetedMage [2009-09-20 15:09:18 +0000 UTC]

No, I'm definitely not a Kid Rock fan. I don't hate him quite as much as some people do, and I realize that he's a decent singer who can play a few instruments, but...uh, no.

The "bull god" in this case can either be the Mesopotamian god Ba'al (note the black moon floating in his hand), or the Minotaur. In Bronze Age Minoan Crete culture, the bull was treated with great reverence and used in religious ceremonies, if not out and out worshiped. Since the Minotaur's labyrinth was actually on the island of Crete, there's a pretty good chance that the Greek myth was inspired by the islander's bull worship. And, since Ba'al worship was prevalent throughout the Mediterranean, as well as the middle east, that Ba'al had at least a little to do with Crete's bull reverence.

Anyway, the point of this here bull god is to point out how connected myths and religions are, and that they all have their origins in something older.

just out of curiosity did you know that it is Mithra that slays the Bull God?;
and that many years later a religion called Mithraism comes to influence the practices of Ceremonial Magick.

seeing as this planet goes through each one of the various signs of the Zodiac every what is it 16,000 years,; it would not surprise me if they slaying of Ba'al did open the door to the new religious regime change.

Especially since it is through sex that pagans find rebirth and redemption. but,in the cult that is christianity, rebirth and redemption became Jesus's Job.

Indeed, sir. Mithraism rose to prominence in the second and third centuries AD in and around the Roman Empire, but the deity is said to have originated in (...wait for it...) in Persia and Mesopotamia, where Ba'al was dominant previously. Could Mithra's slaying of the bull be a direct challenge to the worship of Ba'al? The new religious regime throwing off the old? It's just speculation, but I wouldn't doubt it

Thanks! I spent a long time coloring on a big rock to get that print. Seriously, it's a lithograph, so I had to draw that on a block of marble. It was pretty weird.
