this is only on color theory.. lighting connects very much, but it's a whole different subject on its own.
it's really complicated so explaining it through words is very difficult! sorry

Excellent points! I'm always looking to learn more about how to use color, and the points about saturating either the dark or the light (not both) are very good ones! Using the same simple image to demonstrate your points is also very informative. Thanks for doing this, very helpful! ^.^
