Description So after some delay with the animation, NEW 4KOMA! For those of you who don't know about the animation, check out my journal: geek96boolean10.deviantart.com… . For those who are taking part in the auditions, remember that your audio recordings are due October 17th.

Anyways - new 4koma style, I'm probably going to keep this style for any adapted fairytales.

Many people actually don't know that Cinderella got her name from the fact that she slept by the fire every night (because its cold and she didn't have a bed/blankets), and would wake up with the cinders covering her face and clothes. And her name is actually 'Ella'. Cinder-Ella. Cinderella. Get it?
I might be misinformed. Who cares.

n-n-n-NORA!

I can't help but wonder if Blake doesn't like Weiss.  She was cheering her on when she fought that bore, but she antagonized her about her family.  Maybe she just picks her battles?

yeah, Blake is the bad guy between them when Weiss is a Faunus hating bigot who labels all Faunus as terrorists and criminals because of the White Fang

You're right.  Racism is never justifiable.  But if a soldier were to walk up to me and tell me about how his friend was killed in action by Islamic extremists, and he hated Muslims/Islam as a whole, I wouldn't tell him "Well maybe if America didn't stick it's nose in foreign business your friend wouldn't be dead."  You don't do that.

What Blake said paints her as a monster.  It's awful writing.  Weiss said people have actively died at the hands of the White Fang, some of which were family and friends.  Blake shows no compassion and no empathy for the loss of Weiss' said friends and family.  Instead, she says "Well maybe it wouldn't have happened if we weren't being pushed around."

Also, this racism is practically non-existent in the show.  Show.  Don't tell.

The team that writes RWBY is just vastly inexperienced in the medium.  It's a kids show.  The trailers made me look forward to a strong show.  I was instead given a children's show.  You're not meant to think about it.  You're meant to watch and enjoy.

Weiss was right about one thing, the White Fang have become murderers

what she was pushing though is that all Faunus are the same and will eventually join the White Fang to become terrorists and killers which was completely out of line

Blake and Weiss have both lost friends and loved ones because of the human/Faunus war but only the human casualties were cared about, to the majority of humanity Faunus are nothing more than mindless animals in the guise of humans and Weiss, no matter how civil she is with Blake, is just as racist and i will never be on her side for it

Do you mind telling me where you received this information?  I watched the first season and the first episode of the second season.  From what I gathered the racism didn't extend past name-calling.

And the war barely has any context.  Unless there was an episode in the second season explaining it in detail.

A lot of what you are saying is looking strongly like conjecture.

If racism has some level of a theme here, they need to do a far better job of conveying it.

it was mentioned in the first episode that after the war the Faunus were granted equal rights among humans but despite this the majority of humanity still treat them as if they were just animals

and Weiss in that episode claimed that all Faunus are just the same and will become criminals

that's pretty damn racist

I really do mean this genuinely.  Please take off rose-colored glasses when trying to defend something.  First episode synopsis:

-Pretty well done prologue.
-Introduction to Grim.
-Introduction to Dust.
-Roman Torchwick's robbery.
-Monty Oum choreography skills activate.
-Introduction to the 'heroine'.
-"Uncle Desu" joke.
-Huntress term dropped.
-Gainax I MEAN Yang appears.
-"I'm good at what I do but I don't wanna be special wah."
-Report on Faunas civil rights protest.  White Fang name drop.
-Glenda Goodwitch name dropped.
-Technology level established.
-Well done ending credits sequence.

Okay, so I'm going to quote the only lines speaking on faunas.
"In other news, this Saturday's Faunas civil rights protest has turned dark, when members of the White Fang disrupted the ceremony.  The once peaceful organization has now disrupted *tv shuts off*."

Now that I've cited your source, and wasted 20 minutes of my time trying to discover if I was actually wrong, can you please cite your ACTUAL source, as opposed to lying to me?

i'm just gonna end it

i'm always gonna think Weiss was in the wrong and you're always gonna think i'm a fucking idiot for not siding with her

WrathLOS In reply to Garchompisbeast [2014-09-21 05:19:42 +0000 UTC]

Before I begin, I would like to state that I neither think you are an idiot nor am I mad at you.  I'm defending my point that you attempted to dismantle.

Racism is wrong.  I'm not defending racism.  What I am defending is the fact that Weiss has a valid reason to be disillusioned.

I don't think you're an idiot.  I understand where you are coming from.  I just find that Weiss is easier to sympathize with because she's actively lost friends and family, or so she claims, while we've seen little racism active in the show.  There's a little namecalling.  Beyond that, I don't see GENUINE racism.

For example, if they were to go shopping and Velvet was tagging along, or if Blake showed her ears, have a few shopkeepers actively refuse service to them, or say "no animals allowed in the store."  Make the viewer actively recoil.  An occasional insult is hardly something to complain about, since ANYONE can be an asshole and call ANYONE a bad name.  Weiss may badmouth faunus behind closed doors, but she was a bitch to everyone at Beacon that she deemed beneath her.

And instead of recoiling from the knowledge that the group she once was a part of actively murdered this girl's friends and family, she instead states that their murders were justified.  "Well maybe it wouldn't have happened if we weren't getting pushed around!"

To give one last example that I gave someone else, I work as a cashier in a large department store.  If I had a soldier say that he lost some close friends in Iraq and he hates Muslims because of his friend's ill-fated combat against the Taliban, than I wouldn't look at him and say "Well maybe if America wasn't sticking its nose in foreign affairs, maybe your friends wouldn't be dead."  You DON'T do that.  That's something a monster would say.  And it upset me even more so because before that, Blake was my favorite character.

Blake showed absolutely no regard for Weiss' feelings.  Deciding instead to run away after her outburst, as opposed to owning up to the fact that she just tried to justify their murders.

I'm not mad at you.  I'm mad at the writers and their complete failure to convey the level of racism present in the setting.  I'm mad at the fact that the writers' idea of racism doesn't seem to extend past minor bullying.

I think it's more she dislikes the Schnee family and their corrupt enterprise, but trusts Weiss as her team mate.

I suppose.  We'll have to wait for more interaction between the two before we have anything solid.

I wonder how Weiss feels about her family's dealings?

SerapeWrensFolk In reply to WrathLOS [2013-10-28 03:58:44 +0000 UTC]

From what we've seen? Defensive, but somewhat ashamed. She's also constantly looking for subtle ways to defy her parents.

Monty explained that her ponytail being worn on the right side of her head was a wayshe would subtly piss off her parents. I'm guessing it's an etiquette thing.

I wish he would've saved that for a touching moment in the show.  Would've been nice for sake of development.  Something subtle that people don't know about all of a sudden having immense symbolism.

Oh well.  This is their first major 100% original story.  Can't blame 'em for what I consider to be a minor literary misstep.

I've no doubt they still have an arsenal of character plot points for each of the main cast yet to be revealed. Personally, I'm interested in Yang's rage mode. Her semblance probably has something to do with it, but I feel like there's something more unnatural to it. My favorite theory is she inhaled dust as a child.
