I just did this illustration for my boyfriend (as a surprise) for his birthday. It's a bunch of his favorite videogame and anime characters. First I sketched everything out on bristol board (I like the way pencil lays on bristol, and it erases more cleanly), scanned it in at 1200 DPI, then dropped it to 600 DPI in Photoshop and finished illustrating it there using a Wacom tablet. I wanted to keep it at a high resolution because I planned on printing it at a poster size and framing it. It turned out even better than I had hoped it would. Hope you guys like it!
