Description
The Four realms, you see right here are the Elemental Realms. Home to the Elementals and providing raw elemental materials to the realms. The four Elemental Planes: Air, Earth, Fire, and Water form a ring around the Living world. The Four Elements mingle together as they do in the Living world, forming land, sea, and sky.
Here, the elements exist in their purest form—great expanses of solid earth, blazing fire, crystal--clear water, and unsullied air. Sometimes they often bleed into one another, creating combined elemental Realms.
Each brimming with powerful pure elements, and sometimes there are some creatures that aren't elementals. Some of these creatures have adapted to their elemental home and have some elemental powers. But some are actually from earth, brought here by elementals.
Each realm is ruled by a very powerful elementals, Fire: Salamander, Water: Undine, Air: Sylph, and Earth: Gnome. Each of them manages their individual realm and have a student training under them.
Now, that I got that done. We shall continue towards the realms. Starting off with the North.
The red realm is the “Realm of Fire”. Contrary to popular belief, the Realm of Fire is not made completely of fire, but merely predominantly so. Much of the plane contains scorched land covered in smoldering embers. The air here is a harsh storm of ash and cinder. Its seas and rivers are slow-moving lava, and sources of water are rare. The ground is literally solidified fire and the lava is actually liquid fire. Fire here is extremely powerful.
The ever-present flames of this realm create their own light, and so the concept of darkness is almost unknown to the many natives of this plane. There grand cities in this realm, and market places for trading. The weather here is quite dangerous, especially without a guide. Ruled by the Fiery Salamander. Sometimes Demons, come here often to trade goods. The elementals here craft weapons.
The blue realm is the “Realm of Water”. It is often called the “Endless Sea”. There is some land and a bottom. It is a massive ocean teeming with life. The clouds above rain a deluge accompanied by lightning. And at night, a glittery array of stars and beautiful auroras in the sky. The weather of this realm is harsh, if the sea isn’t calm, it is battered by storms. Islands stretch from the massive coral structures from the sea.
This realm as having all varieties of water constantly in motion, influenced by currents and tides. Life that depended on particular conditions flowed along with their preferred environment or suffered the consequences. Impurities such as bubbles of air, chunks of earth, and even short-lived balls of fire could be found floating about due to elemental vortices or the workings of powerful beings.
Supporting the teeming life of this realm were the corals and plants that made their way here and found purchase. Huge drifting three-dimensional reefs and loose spheres of freshwater grasses, kelp, and seaweed were home to multiple species and were fertile fishing spots. Travelers had to keep in mind that large predators knew of these fishing grounds also, or else they might discover just how bite-sized they actually were. Like the oceans of the Mortal Realm, there is no telling how big a creature could get down here.
There are some areas with large area bubbles, that have air breathing races living here. There are grand underwater buildings here, with powerful currents. Ruled by Undine. This place is very welcoming towards visitors.
The White realm is the “Realm of Air”. This realm has a solid surface but it is covered by a sea of clouds and massive and multiple floating islands. Consisting of sky above and sky below. Occasional chunks of land float aimlessly throughout the expanse. Clouds billow up in bank after bank, swelling into grand thunderheads and dissipating into wisps like cotton candy. The wind pulls and tugs around the traveler, and rainbows glimmer in the distance.
The Elemental Realm of Air is the most comfortable and survivable of the Inner Planes, and it is the home of all manner of airborne creatures. Indeed, flying creatures find themselves at a great advantage on this plane. While travelers without flight can survive easily here, they are at a disadvantage.
With massive cities and castles supported on the floating islands. This realm can often disorient a travel arriving here. The elementals here float freely and without a care in the world.
Where the whiff of smoke eventually became hot, thick, and choking, or the tang of ozone soon lead to heavy storms with arcs of lightning in all directions, or the temperature dropped until flakes of snow, crystals of ice, and lumps of hail finally became a wall of ice, or the light faded to gray and the air thinned out until there was nothing.
Weather was the primary natural hazard in this plane. The winds were normally light to moderately strong throughout the plane but could intensify into tornadoes, maelstroms, and hurricanes with powerful lightning. This realm is ruled by the Playful Sylph.
And Finally the “Realm of Earth”. An expanse of solid matter pockmarked by bubbles of other elements and riddled with fissures and tunnels created by burrowing creatures or the occasional small mining operation. Ensconced in a few of these pockets were trading outposts.
Solid does not imply stationary: the substances of this realm were constantly moving in a slow, grinding motion punctuated by earthquakes from small tremors to massively violent upheavals. The abundance of large gems and huge ore deposits lured many greedy prospectors to brave the significant dangers of this plane. With gigantic mountains and canyons. Veins of ore, crystal, and gems became richer and more prevalent, finally crossing the border to the quasi-elemental realm of Minerals.
Every type of rock, soil, mineral, metal ore, sand, and dirt could be found here in abundance, ranging from talc soft to marble tough to diamond hard. Mining operations tended to be small and short-lived because the movement of the substance of the plane and intense gravity caused cave-ins, and the native population defended their territory and/or food supply. This realm is ruled by the wise Gnome.
Alchemy is often practiced in these realms.
