She is the lover of the Mayan Sun God Kinich Ahau. She covers the earth with a soft glow of light during the night time, unlike ner lover which gives off hurting light during the day. It helps those whom prowl during
the night like her followers the jaguars.

With her brothers, Tohil and Hacawitz, they assisted K’iche’ people leave the Cave of Beginnings and travel to their destinations. When the first dawn came, Awilix, Tohil and Hacawitz were all turned to stone along with the first animals of the world.

In her stone form, Awilix appears again with Tohil and Hacawitz, setting up the foundation of ritual sacrifice and helping the K’iche’ Maya defeat their enemies who were led by the bat god.
