He carries the sun across the sky.
The patron god of the ancient Aztec civilizations calling themselves the people of the sun. He is actually the most powerful god of the Aztec pantheon.
His name translates to “Left handed hummingbird of the south”
He was born from Coatlicue and a ball of humming bird feathers and when his sister Coyolxauhqui decided to behead her mother because she got pregnant and then Huitzil dismembered his sister and brothers and chased after them this causes day and night.

This is also the reason why the Aztecs have body sacrifices to feed Huitzilopochtli and to chase his brothers and sister.
