Description
Inari Okami. Japanese Goddess/Deity of Foxes, fertility, rice, tea, sake, industry, general prosperity, worldly success, and agriculture. She is the the patron of sword smiths and merchants and brothels and entertainers.Inari is an incredibly popular deity who has more shrines dedicated to them than any other kami in Japan; a third of all shrines in the country are Inari shrines. This is largely because Inari’s many attributes have given the deity great significance to Japanese society and helped Inari stand the test of time.
Inari is said to be associated with kitsune, supernatural foxes that act as Inari’s messengers and protectors, who are only allowed to be helpful and benevolent. Because Inari is viewed as benevolent, only helpful kitsune are considered her true servants, and they act as Inari’s messengers and protectors. To harm one of these foxes is an affront to Inari.
In death, She guides and protects faithful spirits. Portrayed as a vixen, Inari also has strong correlations with love, an emotion that survives even the grave. Rice is a common offering for Inari, as it is a crop to which She brings fertility.
In addition to rice, Inari is also associated with tea, an important staple of Japanese society for at least the last thousand years, which places her at the center of some of Japan’s most well-known customs.
Sometimes, too, She took the shape of a human woman in order to sleep with men, who had excellent crops as a result. One of these men, it was said, realized he was sleeping with the Goddess when he saw a long, furry red tail sticking out from beneath the blankets. He said nothing of it, and She rewarded his discretion by causing all his rice to grow upside down, thus bearing a full harvest that was exempt from the rice tax.
The legendary woman Tamamono-Maye, possibly an incarnation of Inari, lived at court and could change at will into a flying fox. An enemy, however, ended her power of transformation (and her life, some say) by confronting her with a mirror, which was powerful medicine against her magic”
She isnt the biggest fan of Yahweh because of how westernization caused most of japans culture to be evaporated.
She likes charlie because of her kindness and gave her a blessing of success.
