Description Darkseid here is a bit of a piece of toy history if you will and has a neat story behind him.

About a year ago there was a seller on ebay trying to unload some JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED prototype figures that were never produced or released and were only used as display models for toys shows prior to the release of the JLU figure line and as samples for sales people to show off to prospective retailers. The seller had the items for Buy It Now for $1000 a pop for Darkseid and a Lex Luthor figure which was also never produced. The auctions sat and went through the rounds of nobody buying them for a few cycles. The price eventually came down to BIN $600, 500, 400...and they did not sell.

My buddy John who is arguably the most prolific customizer on the planet [link] contacted the seller at one point and made him an offer on both pieces and eventually would come to own both at a much smaller price than the original or subsequent asking prices. John being the JLU nut that he is and knowing one of the most recognizable and renown casters in the JLU arena, contacted our buddy Stew [link] and Stew cast all the parts of the unreleased prototypes. These were actually prototypes mind you, not just test shots of molds that had already been made but actually 1 of a kind prototypes, super rare prototypes.

Anyhow Stew cast these gems up and made them available through his store thanks to John being the generous guy that he is and wanting to get these pieces which are about a thousand times better than the ones that eventually made it to retail, into collectors and customziers hands.

Stew being the rock solid guy he is hooked me up with a set of the Darkseid parts and I went nuts on them! I ended up reshaping the arms, shortening them, ditching the legs completely in favor of the retail release Darkseid legs which are a bit longer and then sculpted out the skirt and belt to complete the piece and frankly I'm pretty damn proud of how this turned out.

Even though I used the proto parts, I feel like I made enough significant changes to the entire thing to really call this my own.

This certainly trumps the version they released back in the day(with the click launcher).

Gotta thanks Stew and 37Customs for this one. The secured the prototype and made castings of it, I just mixed up some parts, sculpted the arms and painted it , but yeah, the "doo doo" pose Darkseid was the worst! haha.

I wish I knew Glen Wong. I'd commission a proper Darkseid figure. A 12"! Now that would be something worth the desk space it would inevitably occupy.

A 12 inch version of that Darkseid?! That would be kind of amazing actually! And who is Glen Wong?

Like that jumbo sized Hellboy Mezco figure! I'd buy that over a Sideshow Collectables figure any day. He made maquettes and designed some characters for the batman animated series(and its successor as well as superman and batman beyond). He also sculpted the action figures that kenner produced.

Oh neat! Ya know I think I have his website bookmarked possibly. Did he do the TNBA figures? Cuz I'm pretty sure I found his site because of the Catwoman figure. I gotta have a look now that you got me thinking about it. Thanks for the headsup on that, pretty cool.

Sideshow makes some neat stuff, but I would go with animated style any day over almost anything SSC. Okay I take that back, I desperately want the Baroness figures they made, but there is no way I can afford them at $200 and $400 each roughly.
