History Lesson time.
The bent-arm cross symbol is called Manji, it's been associated with Shiva (and, to a lesser extent, Vishnu), for about 3000 years. After Buddha died around 2500 years ago, the manji became mostly associated with him, possibly as Hinduism tried to absorb Buddhism.
60 years ago, the German National Socialist (Na-Zi) Worker's Party took the Manji, reversed the bend from counterclockwise to clockwise, and called it "swastika." BTW, with the arm bias you have there, it's a manji, not a swastika.
In the East, where people care less about Nazism, the manji is closely associated with Buddhism. (Kishimoto's use is ironic, since Buddha condemned the caste system.) Anyway, in the official dub, the censors decided to replace the manji with an X, to avoid people confusing the manji with a swastika and causing trouble.
So, yeah... that's today's history lesson.

um, actually in the original japanese version the symbol actually WAS called a swastika(the nazi symbol). on another note, the swastika was originally a symbol of peace and unity, but when the nazi party came to power they completely fucked the meaning of the swastika, to the point that people think it means the exact opposite of its original meaning!
