Description This was one of our assignment in Representational Drawing. We had to draw a building around campus at SJCC and hint some perspective (like not face the building flat out) and landscape element. I had to do several sketch studies on the structures before I worked on the final. It was really fun to work with and I was pleased how it turned out, being my first architecture building I have ever done! The flying buttress was complicated to figure out and then there was the glass reflection. How bothersome, but I learned a lot.

Eek....I realize my other traiditonal stuff are huge are all around 18 x 24 T_T;;; That's bothersome to scan....

I only went to SJCC for one semester, but our instructor Eve Page Mathias was wonderful! She has one of the most adorable French bulldogs ever XD

[edit] When I draw, I can't just set a point and lead every line there because I also have check the angle of the building and we aren't supposed to use rules during our sketch observation. This was also drawn on site. So everyday I went to my exact little spot and drew from there. The horizon line is supposed to be low, cuz I'm sitting down on a small step.

The vanishing point is supposed to be somewhere here: [link]

^^ I don't think it should be scrapped. It's wonderful.

I have a hard time with architecture. You really pulled it off. ^^ Good job.

The fact that we are doing it is helpful in our skill no matter the outcome XD Show me show me!

well, i had to do this for my survey of western art class. we had to draw a specific building, and then write an essay about the design, so everything got turned in together.

You definitely chose a very challenging building for your fist attempt, but all in all I think that it turned out really well.

- I love the reflections in the windows, it's a really nice detail. The only thing that I really question at all are some of the ellipses of the lamps

Nice work ^___^

Your so picky lol. The ellipses are a challenge in perspective XD *totally rushed to finish it* Also since everything was drawn from life, the perspective does shift a bit XD

XDD . . . all of my teachers are really picky like that. Especially when it comes to ellipses >__<

Well the ellipses are a bit weird. The one in the foreground is much much smaller that the others. Love it anyway

This shows a really good two-point exterior perspective...however the upper ceiling and windows (?) don't seem to be going to the vanishing point. Sorry for the critique on it...I have design so my teacher always points out stuff like that...it's engraved in my head It's a lovely picture though

Hehe, it's hard to eyeball your own vanishing point but everything should be lined up since I did a line sketch before I inked it. The overhang thingy isn't parralel with the building itself. Its slightly slanted. Bleh, anyways thanks XD

A design teacher? XD;; Like architecture design teacher or a graphic design teacher? XD

He's just a regular design teacher. We don't use computers or anything...it's all hands-on. We discuss are parts of art that show form, space, line, shape, and texture ^^ It's pretty cool

For your first one not bad! I like it. My mom was in her masters degree in architecture when I was about nine so I remember this stuff pretty well. She's got sketch books full of buildings, pretty amazing how everything fits practically in straight lines.

Ohh a master in architecture *__* What does she do now?

Man I need to work on more buildings XD;; I haven't done any after this...haha...(only does it when forced to work)

Joyrok-MJ In reply to gem2niki [2006-10-22 01:27:30 +0000 UTC]

heh she's an architect, what else? Owns her own buisness works long hours but I think she likes it >.> hopefully. Yeah I need to work on my buildings as well, even with my mom there to help me I still suck at drawing them. One wouldn't think it was that hard since it is just a bunch of straight lines most of the time. And for some reason I can't quite get it right...

I ask for help and I get "practice" instead. However that's all she did in school was draw, make mini models and use those funky rules. hehehe I was known to her class mates as the kid that barfed on the one couch they had... ah... good times

Wow, I like the details in the trees, and the perspective is amazing! The flying buttress is very impressive. You should show us more of your traditional stuff!
