Description This tutorial will show you how to get rid of the blue pencil marks underneath a lineart. I usually draw with a blue pencil and lineart it with ink so that I don't hassle with transfering it on different paper or tracing etc. I think this is in reference to the Disney technique (?) or something. The next part will be to seperate the lineart from the white, so we have a transparent lineart where the color layers can go underneath without ever having to set it with Multiply. This is also helpful if you want your lineart in a different color instead of black. I hope you find this helpful in some way.

Extra Tip

If you don't have a blue pencil and also prefer to keep your intial sketches or mess up with inking, you can scan your sketch onto the computer and convert the line into a light blue (you have to adjust it to a certain blue for it to work properly) using Image --> Adjustment --> Hue/Saturation with Colorize check marked. And then print that out on a smooth paper preferably and ink it with pen. That way you have your original sketch and the lineart. Have fun.

This is amazing. However, I need to verify something.
You sketch and ink traditionally, and scan it in, correct?

I want to ask...In a lineart, do you need to highlight some parts, or it is not important?
I mean, when a character is behind, or in front of other.

HELP! after I've done all of this I created a new layer to color it and every single color is grey because of the channel. How can I paint it now?

There are so many ways for lineart... I don't really know which one to go for, but this one seems a lot simpler than the others. I couldn't figure out the pen tool to save my life, and my tablet's pressure sensitivity doesn't like me, so I like this, where I can draw traditionally and color digitally ^_^ Lately I've just been using the lasso tool to outline my sketch, then filling it with black, then I use the lasso tool again just inside of the black, and then erase. It's hard and extremely time-consuming. I'm glad I found this tutorial ^_^

Whenever I turn it to greyscale, it white becomes this, creamy colour, and it messes EVERY other colour up, I tried to put a pale blue background it was pinkish coloured.

Thanks! That made the process soooooooo much easier for me! I hate having to redraw the lineart on the computer and it comes out poorly. It works for GIMP too (if you know you're way around it) and that's good for me since I don't have photoshop. Awesome! C:
