Description
Sam Manson a.k.a The Ghost Girl / Sam Mena
(Reverse Trio AU)
After an accident with a ghost portal in her parent’s research lab, Sam Manson becomes half-ghost. Taking up the name Sam Mena after a time (Mena being Greek for “Spirit”), she protects the town of Amity Park from ghosts who have slipped out of the ghost zone to cause havoc through the demands of their obsession.
Unlike her parents however, who have an intense disdain for ghosts bordering on hatred, (to the point that they are more than happy to hand over any caught ghosts to the government for capture and intense experimentation) Sam takes a more sympathetic and activist type role for ghosts. Even before her accident, she fought against her parents for being so close-minded over what ghosts may think and feel and refusing to see them as spirits of the deceased forever searching for closure through their obsessions instead of mindless, destructive monsters. This does not mean she is no less willing to use violence if necessary, but she is much more willing to try to understand the ghosts she is fighting so that she can figure out how to deal with them in the long-term instead of handling them with a short-term fight and capture.
Her parents are more ectobiological researchers than hunters (they are far more likely to call someone else to do the capturing). However, on the off chance they do capture a ghost, Sam is always quick to free to them, and she is always searching for ways to better accommodate the ghosts when she has to capture them. (How would you like to be stuffed into a tiny metal canister for four hours?)
Her ghost core is not ice-based as Danny’s is but instead life/light-based.(Headcanon: Cores are determined by the emotion felt at the time of death. Anger = Fire, Horror = Darkness, etc. If the emotion isn’t strong enough, then the ghost will be a low-level telekinetic.)
In Sam’s case, she felt something much akin to curiosity when examining the portal, which spawned an unusual life/light core, which gives her powers resembling that of plants and, well, light. Thus, her ghost sense comes through as a strong scent reminiscent of grass clippings and dry brush, which always ends up making her sneeze.
Her core is also why her hair looks viney instead of firey or some such thing like that.
(Fun note: Sam did a bunch of research when trying to pick her ghost name, because if she was going to be called something, it was going to sound good. She chose Mena because it sounded cool and the meaning was awesome. Tucker begged to differ since no one would get it, but Sam immediately decided that she didn’t care.)

I really like your headcanon for the cores, and from what we've seen (being mainly the assumption that Vlad's core is fire and knowing Danny's core is ice, as well as Klemper's core of ice, and Ember's also of fire), it makes sense. So... I'm guessing ice would be... loneliness? Or another a fear more selfless in nature, so while darkness/horror is more of a personal thing (I'm thinking Spectra here, with her obsession of looking youthful and her natural form being a shadow, her horror was at her own lack of beauty from old age and possible stress). So while darkness is more of a personal fear of "Why's this happening to me", ice would be more of a lonely fear, or a fear regarding leaving others behind?
I'm literally just throwing ideas around, sorry! I do like the art too though. The core headcanon is just really interesting to me.

I imagine that in this AU, Sam would be a major literature and mythology buff, and your note at the bottom only increases that feeling.

Yesss I thought it would be a cool difference to make Sam's core different from Danny's and making her more plant than light-based.

I really love the style you gave Sam, it's a nice blend between her classic gothic look and color scheme and some of the base articles of clothes Danny would have. Usually anything that redesigns the main cast's outfits feels out of character, but I think this fits pretty well. Extra points for maintaining Sam's purple tights in her wardrobe. It's just a bit of a pet peeve when artists take those off her and make her go bare-legged,

Thank you! I'm glad you think so. I was going for a look that Sam might wear if she were not Goth, and I like to think I succeeded. Your comment makes me believe so at any rate. uvu But yeah, I agree. The purple tights are so Sam. >:u It seems weird to have her bare-legged.

It does say something rather nice about her character that she'd have enough class to wear nylons on a daily basis. She doesn't show many overt feminine traits, but I've always like that little bit about her.
