I like this alot, I love how fluid the elements look, they have a great feeling of movement, and great work with the colors too

Very surreal indeed. I think the blue tones add to the "creepiness" of the picture. It makes it feel cold and empty.

An awesome picture, nice surreal-ness I really can't say anything since everyone else has said everything xD And Calaqyn gives better critique than I can :3 I do love that tree/body though.

Ah, this was too big for a scanner? I don't like how my paintings look photographed, either... but I haven't seen the original, and I still think that this is really neat. The concept is just... great, it's so creepy and distant. Alien, maybe? You should try some more surreal stuff, I think.
Hmm. If this is something that you want to work on more (and I assume that you do, or you wouldn't ask for advanced critique), the first thing that I would suggest is to really go all out on your blacks - make that sort of river-pit-thing more voidlike. Maybe some texture on the tree would be nice, a little more definition. Maybe make the eyeball a little more moist and eyeball-like? (I really like the eyeball, it creeps me out a lot) Oh, and the sky isn't very convincing to me. I think that it would be fine if you were to make it a little more vague, maybe mist-like. Hope this is helpful, at least a little.

It is helpful. Thank you very much. I'm saddened however because the black really is black, but the reflection makes it look not. I tried to fix it in photoshop but it made it look fake. Oh well.
The sky did give me some trouble. I was doing it with the classroom paintbrushes, before I brought in my own and it made it hard. Too late to try and fix it now I'm afraid, or I'd have to repaint the tree. T_T I'm sure I could find some way to touch it up though. Sky is just hard for me in general. I really need to work on it. Any suggestions on generic skywork?
Also. The painting goes from my collar to my waist. way to big for my scanner
Thanks for the crit.

Oh, wow, way too big! Haha, my painting professor liked us to make big paintings, too, so I've got a still life and a life study hanging out in my garage that I can't find a way to show here (they're both around four feet tall).
I think that skies are difficult for just about everybody (normal people, at least). You're using acrylic, right? If you want to take my suggestion for sort of a misty, icy sky, I'd just water down a light color and make it kind of neutral, with maybe a few streaks of a slightly darker color for variation. I can try to explain how I did the clouds here [link] if that's more like what you're going for (although puffy clouds don't seem to fit the mood). Actually, maybe I should ask you what you envision and see if I can't think of some way to help a little, ha ha.
And of course you don't want to mess up the tree; I think that the tree is the best part. Have you looked at something like masking fluid before? Or since it's acrylic, some carefully applied painter's tape might help cover stuff up so that you don't have to worry about messing anything up while you paint.

I'll try and water down a color like you said. That's a tech. I'm somewhat familiar with. I think that with light controlled changes, I can avoid the tree fairly easily.

No problem, you've certainly earned it. The quality isn't excellent, but I get the point.
