In the original concept for the story, Maria and Arthur were dating. Each were completely ignorant of each others' alter egos. It was going to be a big event when they finally got to see behind each others' masks. However, the concept of the story drifted away from identity and more towards compassion. Later, the concepts of religion trying to usurp and define morality would become the focus.Related content

What was also interesting is that they were also attracted to the alter-egos and feeling guilty about it. The two would often perform salsa dancing together, and when they met in a fight as their alter-egos they started to dance as they fought. That's when they realized who was who.
