I know its eastern european, but it is western because it has catholics, the latin alphabet, and many other things western. Each country within a culture has a different way of performing it.

Greece is not catholic and does not use latin alphabet? so, how can greece in western culture but not romania?

Western World=Greco-Roman world.

Seishinart In reply to GeneralHelghast [2012-03-14 19:24:33 +0000 UTC]

ok lets say greek culture is similar to western europe ( that is not actually - even if in roman era )

but, how could you put romania east orthodox culture???

I give a basic information: Romanians are Catholic, Latin and definitely not slavian...
I traveled to both countries, and Romania is more more european than greece. I think greece is similar to turkey..

Interesting that you have the Americas all under the Western culture (most people would divide them into a Western and Latin American bloc).

GeneralHelghast In reply to BrandonScottPilcher [2011-11-02 22:07:27 +0000 UTC]

yeah, most people divide latin from western, but I think it makes more since if we added Latin culture to Western Culture because they speak Spanish and Portuguese, they had become christian since the Colonial days, and that they have some influence from Europe (primarily Spain and Portugal).

actually, since madagascar is in africa and has its native population being black, i prefer to keep it the way it is.

Nice map. However Latin America isn't purely Western culture, it owes a lot to the indigenous traditions that blended with the conquerors'.

Yeah, Latin American Culture's different from European culture, but I prefer Latin Americans to be of western civilization because they are in the western hemisphere and that a majority of it speaks either spanish or portuguese. Although you do have a point about the indigenous traditions.

You should make Vietnam a cross between East Asian and Southeast Asian culture...

there is a fine line in islamic culture and ethnic culture you know. Our culture is not similar to arab peoples culture. besides the index is wrong it should have been then Christian culture and not Western...
Hebrew is a language cant be a culture

yellow and green are religious and the rest is being based on where they at? Shouldnt it be midle eastern culture or persian culture or arab or desert culture where there is a desert..

Great map, very interesting to see all the cultures. Of course the border between the cultures are not fixed, but you surely made the dominating cultures
