Masters of the Universe is one of those franchises that fired my imagination as a child.
It was like a playground for my dreams: a complete world populated by strange characters who did have formulaic adventures but which were none-the-less creative in the amount of nonsense one can milk from the basic idea of a good guy with a bunch of helpers versus a bad guy with a bunch of helpers. Whatever it's somewhat cynical origins as a marketing ploy for toys there was real effort paid to designing something new, something piggy-backing on successful franchises but distinguishing itself from them as well. Instead of the military background of GI Joe we had a fantasy world. Instead of the cute and pleasant look of My Little Pony there was harsh landscape, people battling with swords, and a villain with a grinning skull for a face.
We're firmly in the age of nostalgia and inevitably, although not even unique to the franchise, Masters of the Universe will be resurrected. There's too big a cultural footprint, too many fond memories and merchandise potential to avoid a reboot for long. But if they do I'd like them to see what could be done here. Adapt the story from classic times but ADD to it, don't subtract. Streamline but don't dumb down. I think honestly after as many misfires as there's been in the past by making adaptations in name only, rebranding unrelated stories, or making such a hash of the original material it's basically a parody I'd like to see one series try and make us believe in a fantasy world that just so happens to be based on a toy line.
I'd like to see Eternia live, even moreso than it ever has, and not just because it's in a higher resolution. Because someone took the time to honor all those who came before.

I kind of like the premise, but considering there had already been a He-Man cartoon reboot in 2002 (www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEbPIB… ), would you file that under one of the "misfires", and if so, why specifically (because I'm pretty sure it isn't for the same reason this one miskfired: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF20B8… )?

I actually used quite a few cues from the 2002 reboot
But yes, it was a misfire, not unlike the remake of Thundercats which had similar problems.

There was too much of a dissonance between trying to realize an entirely new continuity AND make constant references to the past. You can't very well make a reboot AND have nostalgic nods to a past that didn't exist. This is why the Clash of the Titans remake failed too I'd argue.

The intro is cut off! I'm sure someone thought that was incredibly cute, but were they really expecting the only people watching their show firmly aimed at children to be older people familiar with the classic opening? To a kid this would (and DID) come across as very confusing.
It also didn't quite help that there was so many poorly chosen decisions in both continuities. Lines of dialogue like 'You will fight like cats!' sounds stupid (although 'For the Pride' has a certain ring to it) and it didn't help that with strong openings in both shows the rest of the series was pretty much wash, rinse, and repeat iterations of tired tropes.
Case in point, and the killing blow to Thundercats I'd argue, was they had a fine opening episode introducing the stakes and players...and then the second episode is a boring retread of Moby Dick for no reason.
Someone needs to exert a little effort to make these productions feel cohesive. Even the shows of the past for all their faults all felt like they were part of one production, not a bunch of scattered ideas united by really nice animation.

Eh, fair point. I agree that there may be some "awkwardly standing on their feet" for the first few episodes of any new television show, but a disconnect that hard probably doesn't bode well for the series as a whole.

Ok, for writing projects, there's either redoing your Re-Imagining of Transformers (I sent all the details I could remember in a Note to you a while back - I'll copy them in my next reply if you don't remember them), or a Re-Imagining of Diablo 3 to make it fit more into the Grimdark tone of the first two games (although I suggested trying to incorporate the events of the Reaper of Souls expansion, particularly the Face-Heel Turn of Malthael: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWBUG0… )
