Description
This is the fourth or fifth try at a Sonic redesign for the Sonic Freebound continuity. Mostly I've been having difficulty keeping him clearly looking like himself but also dissimilar enough to fit into the altered storyline and tone.Sonic I picture as a cocky daredevil type whose costume reflects his rebellious nature and 'work' as a premier freedom fighter featuring details like scraps of armor and padding to serve as limited protection and cushion him from his death defying leaps. The color scheme I tried to keep not too busy. Sonic is not exactly into high fashion but he makes an effort to look collected as well as keeping bright colors to a minimum since he favors stealth and speed.

looks pretty decent, it kind of feels like a possible redesign for a live action Sonic movie (which coincidentally one is being made) which does raise a question what are your thoughts on the idea of a live action Sonic movie? I can see how you're trying to find a balance between Sonic's traditional design and a more realistic look, I can understand I've been making attempts at my own realistic design for Sonic (my first attempt didn't turn out very well), Although the design I'm currently working on is going for more of a puppet look like if they were to hire Jim Henson's Creature Shop to make the non human Sonic characters since I kind of imagine a live action Sonic Satam movie being similar to Dark Crystal in terms of visuals and atmosphere while you're design is more like if they were to give an actor make up to look like a real life (still a valid interpretation) Sonic but to each their own I guess. I see you're mainly going for a more military look to fit with the whole Freedom Fighters angle though I feel the design kind of neglects the fact he has super speed which is a major part of the character, I think it's the pants and all the gear that kind of throws me off, my suggestion is maybe look at the Flash costume from the CW show or even the Injustice games and imagine it in a military context, I mean it'd be a fair assumption that due to having super speed that Sonic would need some sort of special gear to accommodate that.
But that's just my 2 cents you don't have to take any of my suggestions really, Sorry for the long comment.

Now okay just seeing this also read the info and comments exuse me burp. This is maybe by far the best in a way more mature or even more edgy yet even live action take in a way I've seen of Sonic. Mainly because I've been thinking about Sonic for a while just seeing this you outdone yourself.
I'm sorry I'm sounding stupid even if the version and almost said show but if it was in live action.....best way to say you made him still look like Sonic while changing some things. That is what impresses me also the eyes lol. It's not one big thing man.
Just other then that good job.....and this is being said from a guy who does not like Sonic much yeah wanted to say that......yet...their are some ideas man lol g stop smiling submit ns this um sorry man stall

I've been used to these designs from you quite a bit, and from your Freebound interpretation of Sonic (as a full-on resistance fighter), this fits.
However, I think that this design (even for a gender-bent Sonic) could fit Sonic either just before the events of Freebound take place, or during the post-war period after the Freedom Fighters finally defeat Eggman (drawloverlala.deviantart.com/a… ). I say this because the simplified design of "blue jeans, black tanktop, and possibly white hoodie in addition" is properly streamlined to emphasize the speed of Sonic, while also highlighting his laidback personality.

I think a more streamlined goggles like the ones motorcyclists wear would have been a better fit.

Actually I have a reason for that decision!
Sonic is traditionally pictured as having his eyes in one big space on his face. I wanted to imply that his face does look like that but only when he has his goggles on XD

I don't want him to look just like a mascot but not so busy he looks like a mess. Maybe I failed again.

It's kinda hard NOT to make him a mascot. The spines are unmistakable. But then lies the paradox.

It's just...I think it's the pants. If he's supposed to be the fastest, I feel he needs his pant legs cut off at his shins giving his ankles and heels ample freedom and no risk of tripping over.

Yeah...it just feels a little weird with a more 'realistic' character not wearing pants.
But then again Mobians traditionally don't wear clothes often anyway.
