Description
Sogeki no shima deUmareta ore wa
Hyaku patsu hyaku chyu
Ru ru ra ra ru...
Brave Warrior of the Sea,
"Sogeking" Usoppu-Sama!
voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi, this character has to be one of the funniest characters in the history of cartoons.
This piece is entirely dedicated to both Eiichiro Oda and Kappei Yamaguchi whom has given me laughter through my very difficult divorce. I look(ed) forward to the release of this show once a week... (I tried hard to stay away from the Manga until I started working on Usopp).
When I first started this piece, he started out as Sogeking. Once the crew was separated, I saw the proto of the statue... I wanted to make sure that I had him completed by the time he popped back into the show. That hair RUINED me
All in all, I loved working on him. I'd like to create one of Zoro eventually.
Stats:
I created the base mesh in 3D Max. Its the first time I've ever ignored polycount. I wanted to see if I could get Eiichiro-San to get a real mold of this cat.
The Skin, Eyes, Pants, Boots, Hair, Arm-band, Hat, and Ammo Bag each have their own 1024 texture on them, all with normal maps.
History:
I did some thorough research on how Usopp would have actually created his gear while he was on Greenstone. I know Usopps dream was to become a "Brave Warrior of the Sea" like the Giants of Elbaf, so he would have created his leather gear with this in mind. Being an artist, He would have found a way to make paint and paint his ammo bag. His headphones were the hardest to create because of the limited reference at the time. I believe he would have purchased those, along with his Mark Nason boots back on Shabondy. The goggles could have been provided by Heraclese.
Credits:
James, I cannot thank you enough for granting me the understanding on how lighting works. I would have never made it this far with out you. I WILL keep my word and hire you as my lighting instructor when we break in.
Ty, Ryan, and Jon, I appreciate our lunches together and I'm extremely happy to have your help and your eyes on this piece.
Ron, thank you for not rejecting this one. Because of yours and Devons strictness, I feel like I've truly arrived this year as an artist.
Marco, being your mentor is a true blessing. I am honored to learn from such a masterful artist!
All in all, I haven't worked on a project and had this much fun in years!
Thank you Eiichiro-San!

Nice sculpt, although the materials on the hair are off. Gloss seems way too high.

For some reason, One Piece seems to attract the few 3D artists I watch. Just, out of the blue, one day there will be a model of a character, ha ha.
Fabulous work on this....The detail is beautiful, and I think the hair turned out great in the end.
And the rendering for the image? WOW. Looks like he literally popped out of the 2D art world, and I very much thought this was a traditional sculpture at first glance, but thought better of it because I've never seen any traditional sculptures posted by you.
Gorgeous model and all the image entails.
