How many of these could I find if I reached out?
Any idea the cost might be used if they were legal?

They are legal. You can buy one from $800 and up. The full auto versions on the other hand have to be registered with the BATF and be on the 1968 machine gun registry list or a dealer special. (dealer special meaning used by licensed full auto gun dealers only) They are legal here in the states, although many states have made magazine restrictions or have made it illegal to have stock gun/tactical furniture on them.

I'm talking about the M16A1 if bought from some third world country that used them.

Ooh well the only way you could get one is if the lower receiver were cut. Like with AK's, but I don't know how well M-16's have handled 25 to 40 years of use and abuse.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this entirely preset Pimp My Gun assets?

Just a weapon profile, nothing more.

Neat, but I thought it was replaced by newer M-16A2 in mid 1980s.

Nice gun. After modifications, wasn't it nicknamed the "Sweet Sixteen"?

That was a cleaning manuals name. Implying keep the rifle like a sweet sixteen year old prom queen, most 19 year old's could relate to that.
