I'm going to say this now from personal experience... the AK's gas piston is simply NOT compatible with the M4's...besides, you don't have the gas piston alligned as is. Additionally, whichever cartridge you would use, it would rip the barrel off. See if you can incorporate these points into the design.

I know the gas pistons are way uncompatible first of all i added the AK piston up top for blend effect so it appears both are melding together into one. The real gas tube is under the barrel, I put thought into that. And i used the M-4's standard 5.56 round instead of the AK's heavy 7.62 round becuase the 7.62 isn't capable of being fired out of a M-4. I put thought into the gun and it's design but i do agree it is a bit crude and could use a little fine tuning. all in all it could work with the right TLC

Putting it underneath posts a significant loading and/or integrity problem. There is a reason why Kalashnikov put it where he did and why so high. You might want to look at a cross section.

If you shaved off the picatinny rails that'd actually look pretty cool. What would be even cooler is if you used AK-100 furniture so it blended better and all.
