Staunch Pirate hunters I'm afraid! There were stilt-walkers in Pirate costume and they were itching to go after them!

That's so cool. I asked a fife and drum core at a Memorial Day reenactment if a I could join, and they said a girl couldn't be a part of it, unless I snuck in somehow. Sort of disappointing. I'd love to do reenactments.

Very sharp uniforms. Beautiful.

There were female pirates, and women followed the Armies on some occasions; The French Army had Cantiniere's who carried alcohol and dressings for injured soldiers. Some groups would allow women if they play men in the regiment.

We've got a few ladies in our WW2 group!

The problem is, I want to do the manly jobs, lol. I don't want to dress in the petticoats and whatnot.

WW2 would be better.

Definitely, It's not much better action wise, but you get a wealth of fairly smart uniforms.

Google these:

WRNS aka WRENS aka Womens Royal Naval Service
ATS Auxilliary territorial service
WAAF Womens auxilliary air force
MARENs (like Wrens but for the Royal Marines)

The Russian army had lots of fighting women, and the Germans had a female air ace (She was also Jewish and got the Knights cross with Diamonds).

Women served all over the shop, I know some landed at Anzio, some in Burma etc.

Cool! Thanks for the info!

Oh, just curious...have you ever heard of/watched "Foyle's War"? It think it'd be right up your alley. It's a great show.

I have, what's her name? Honeysuckle Weeks is gorgeous, she's wearing the uniform of something odd - MTC - Mechanised Transport Corps (googled it)

I LOVE Sam! Such an awesome female character. And I wish I had that uniform.

I have an autographed picture of her and Anthony Howell (Sgt. Milner). I was pretty excited when those came in the mail.

Ah nice one, they talk to each other and share information - I wonder if they've ever met up... hmm.

If I ever leave my job, I'm going to spend a year in the states as a redcoat - preferably at a museum or one of the old sites - How is life treating you though, what are you doing now?

Goldenspring In reply to GeneralVyse [2011-07-05 21:23:27 +0000 UTC]

Ha, it would be cool to have a British redcoat! There was one fellow with an English accent at this past event. Ironically he was referred to as THE brit though they were all in read coats...

Life IS treating me well. i'm interning at Colonial Williamsburg this summer in there Millinery/mantua making trade shop. How about yourself?

GeneralVyse In reply to Goldenspring [2011-07-06 22:05:47 +0000 UTC]

I fluctuate in accent as to who I'm talking to, so if I'm with Cockney's I do that, if I'm with chaps from Bolton I mimic theirs - I can't help it. SO if I went over to the US I would be speaking like an American in no time!

I'd love to work at Colonial Williamsburg - they have redcoats I seem to recall - will you get paid? (Find out about a job for me! HAHAHA)

I'm alright, a bit bored with the 9-5, the reenactments are what keep me going, I get to escape reality and fire artillery pieces (Naval guns specifically).

Hmm... sounds like you need a time machine, if only to avert further boredom!

I don't get paid anything, cause I'm just a lowly intern. Can you act? the cool jobs are the people who play characters in the street theater.

Damnit, you should have let me know! Nottingham Castle would have been easy to get to! ;_; And oh, you know, mainly working... and doing some freelance stuff. I've also started driving lessons, so I'm rushed a bit right now. I'm hoping that I'll get my online life sorted out next year though.
