Description
A view of Fort/Port Arthur, St James' Bay, Devia, looking towards the west.Evening and the boats are away for mayday, It is a day of rest for the people of Fort Arthur.
you can see its many features, Fort Arthur on the hill, Fort Charles on the promonitory point and the gallows also there, on the highest point. The Quays are clear for the month as the Fleet is on maneuvers. You can also see the familiar form of St James' Church, and the court house.
Port Arthur boasts, many fine shops and canteens - it is reknown for it's wig shops and tailors.
A military town, there is scarcely a house without the forces of the king billeted inside.

Ever see the artwork by 'warhammer' for 'Mordheim'??? They were always placing random fish in drawings so it seemed to make sense, plus this is a fishing village so... ;D

WOw it's amazing how you manage to put such life in suttle contour. Another brilliant piece of art.
This piece reminds me of the experiments which went on during modern impressionism.

GeneralVyse In reply to Promus-Kaa [2007-05-10 20:39:47 +0000 UTC]
ah sorry - ive just realised that ive made a dreadful mistake...
about the time you showed an interest in the forum, radavik began to as well - his name IS casey - i got confused and thinking you were casey i wrote all that stuff... :S its all ok now - ironically you both want to be marine officers - so ive made you both colonel's of the marines - you (travingston) are in charge of the sea borne and port devia Marines - radavik (casey) is in charge of the port arthur marines - you are both garrisonned in fort charles normally -
im so sorry - what a mix up! i dont think it effects things too much - what it does mean is that you're free to go with the others on their expedition if you want - the aftermath - is already written - it involves vyse and 'casey' but not travingston...
i am so unbelievably sorry though - all the time that i have written casey i meant you - but from now on it will mean radavik and travingston will be you...
i tell you what though! two regiments of marines is better than one and no mistake!

Darn you, this looks great! It has that 3D realistic feel and you can almost imagine people inside of the houses just about to go out into the streets! I hope that the weather remains as fine for the people at the narrow part of the land for they do seem to have built their homes on a slightly lower land exposed to the sea on one side. But damn, it looks so realistic and believable!!
You did a marvelous job sir! Now you ought to excuse me for I need to explore the fine port n' town 'ere.

GeneralVyse In reply to Gekster [2007-05-04 20:15:45 +0000 UTC]
well its based (roughly) on two real places, Port Royal (it was a real place - and did get washed away - but that was an earthquake) and llandudno in north wales. both have a spit of land between two points - and are close to sea level - llandudno has never, however, slipped beneath the waves in its entire 1,000 year history...
glad you like the town though - i wanted it to have that unplanned look, and have the usual features of a coastal town - and as i understand - you would know it better than i!
right! now go explore the town - the bars and inns are in cheapside (left) the shops and coffee houses are in high town (right) course if we have any pirates about, why not go to the gallows and watch a hanging - i hear they have (ye olde) popcorn there these days...

Oops XD ah well, water is water. *laugh* I knew that several places from the movie actually existed and that Port Royal was as bad if not worse than Tortuga even if in the movie it seems considerably respectable (Considerably! ). I didn't know however that it was washed away. So was it washed up by a wave caused by the earthquake or did it slip in further into the sea? *blink*
Hm thank you for the tips and notes on what goes on in the city and where the "touristic" points are *chuckle* I shall be certain to visit an inn or perhaps a bar, and then off to the shops for there are certain things that had run out and a few i need to see if ye place be having .
And btw if you know, where would some of the other ships be docked , The Formidable aswell , after it is completed ofcourse (close to that now! Yay!)

well you make port at port devia don't you? again - if you check the map - it's got all the berths marked out - but in this pic, it's where all those quays are
they say port royal was claimed by god - but basically the earhtquake made the land sink down and the sea just took its place - it's still there but half of it is underwater... (check google earth )
aye - one can never have to many wigs - and we must always look our best... when we're drunk
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Gekster In reply to GeneralVyse [2007-05-04 21:08:40 +0000 UTC]
So you mean that the ship shall be docked at port Devia or what not? XD And I shall have that map printed both for more informative reasons as to perhaps attempt to draw stuff in to. We will see .
Hm, how could they say by god when technically in that case Port Royal should've gone up XD not down, no? *chuckle* Hm, I shall, and there were several coast line cities that have either slid down into the water or sunk lower, which in turn meant that water claimed them. Well I remember that there were some, can't technically name them though. *sweatdrop*
Aye, the wigs are mighty important for ways of looking good though dreadfully expensive! Hehe, dear sir, I hope it shall not sound wrong but a drunk can hardly looks their best.. unless ye mean as best as a drunk can be. *small laugh* But ofcourse ye need not worry, sir David. There are always exceptions to the rule. *innocent blink*

Nay, I do not mean something of such great proportions although in that case anything close to the beach would have no means of escaping the water. And even anything further up the slopes would be in danger of sinking under for a while. I did mean however the possibility of really high waves in the storm that could hit the unprotected side as it's rather low and exposed. But ofcourse in time the port can build itself a sort of a breakwater or what's it called that would keep the other side protected and the bay even calmer in normal weather. Then again if the seas are calm around here there is no need for any of such devices ! And even with the raugher sea it would be the really heavy storms one would need to watch out for. Not just any I guess !
