Description
EDIT: 15/07/2012 - Modified the central features of the department seal and made necessary changes to the description.Created for use as part of a work-in-progress anime/manga universe: 3D High.
Takes place in a universe where mythical creatures are real and deadly threats to life and limb, and there are multiple dimensions populated by other sentient beings aside from humanity.
Our dimension has endured the devastating consequences of being suddenly connected to other dimensions, destabilization of the fabric of reality across the world, killing billions, and rendering large swaths of land unsafe for human habitation to this day.

ABOUT
The Department of Defence was set up to oversee the restructuring of the Peacekeepers Corps into an organizational system that is independent of all national military forces.
It is responsible for administration of the United Nations Defence Forces (UNDF), the Office of Military Intelligence (OMI), development of weapons technology, and keeping track of threats to the security of the Federation. This includes crimes against humanity. If regional authorities fail to end human rights violations, the UNDF may be directed to step in at the direction of the Department of Justice and the Secretary-General.
The Secretary of Defence is in charge of the Department, appointed by the Secretary-General, and vetted by the Federation's upper legislative body, Global Parliament. The Secretary of Defence is a cabinet-level position, and is 7th in the line of succession for the post of Secretary-General.
The incumbent Secretary of Defence is Marielle Lafayette, from France. She was the former head of the European Regional Defence Committee, and former French Minister of Defence.
Long story short, the UNF is not swayed by national interests, meaning that it does not sit impotently while crimes against humanity are being committed that cannot be stopped by regional authorities alone. It can and will get things done.

SYMBOLISM
- Dove no longer embraces. It is swooping fiercely and defiantly against the enemies of the Federation, while protectively holding the seal's central features.
- Beneath the dove is the department's motto in Latin: "If you wish peace, prepare for war."
- Shield bearing 7 stars on it symbolise the mission of the Department; to protect humanity.
- The 7 stars and the flame are carried over from the state flag.
- The olive leaf wreaths symbolise peace. Something that the Federation is willing to fight for.
- Th sword behind the shield symbolises the willingness of the Federation to fight in defence of its people and its ideals.
- Chains around the shield and sword symbolize the moral and legal restraints placed upon the department by the constitution and civilian government, so they remain righteous in the pursuit of their mission.
- The globe at the tip of the sword represents the people and nations of the world, while also representing the unity of purpose that the people share with the department, the safety and endurance of mankind.

Hey there.
I believe this is the 6th year since I started working on this universe. Unlike with your work on "The Time Traveller", I have little to show for in terms of actual story (there is a general plot with major events, but a lot of gaps that need filling). But there is a wealth of background and depth to the world that the story will inhabit. Even now, the stuff under this deviation is actually outdated.
And as soon as my sister starts Uni later this year, I'm hoping I can get some 3D High illustrations up somewhere. All I have right now are words and symbols.

*blushes* Thanks for the nice reply. But I have been on hiatus with my writing too for nearly two years by now, it's really time I get back into the drawing mood and keep going, so many ideas I wanna bring to life and then post it here and on other sites too. *smirks*

*delayed reply* Yeah. It's good to take a break once in a while or else the well runs dry. If you run yourself ragged you might lose the passion to continue altogether.
