Anybody remember Tatsunoko vs. Capcom? It was a Capcom vs. game where Capcom characters fought characters from Tatsunoko properties like Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, Casshern, Karas and Yatterman. Well, what if Capcom crossovered with another anime studio, like Gainax? Unless you've been living under a rock, Gainax is an animation studio in Japan that gave us Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL, Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. So here's my take on what the game would be like. Gainax vs. Capcom!ROSTER:

Q: Even if this game was made, would the game be dubbed for western releases?
A: Either way. I say this because remembering Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Project X Zone, the games were translated from Japanese but none of the characters except for Frank West in TvC) had dub voice actors for the characters. Now of course, Gainax's anime do have dubs and so do a number of Capcom's properties from Japan like Street Fighter and whatnot, though some other games by them released to the US like Rival Schools and Mega Man Zero didn't have English voices for the characters. So plainly speaking, western exports of Gainax vs. Capcom would either stay with the Japanese voices or it can be dubbed.
Q: What does Gainax vs. Capcom play like?
A: Gainax vs. Capcom would play like Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, meaning that the game would be 2.5D and there are tag teams in it like in TvC. Also, as usual with most Capcom vs. games, there are special moves, super combo moves and hyper combo moves as well as after-match quotes.
Q: Is there a story behind Gainax vs. Capcom?
A: ...Can't say there is one. At least not specifically one, though.
Q: Who's the final boss in Gainax vs. Capcom?
A: The game would have a sub-boss and a final boss fought in order. The sub-boss is the Anti-Spiral and the final boss in the game is Granzeboma, which is the Anti-Spirale mecha.
Q: Are there endings in this game?
A: Yes. And the endings are like the ones from Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.
Q: What are Spider-Man and Ryuko doing here?
A: Spider-Man and Ryuko Matoi are two guest fighter in the game, each representing one side. Spider-Man is on the Capcom side in reference to the Marvel vs. Capcom crossovers (plus, Marvel's had its history with Capcom anyways, ever since X-Men: Children of the Atom). Ryuko's on the Gainax side in reference to the fact that Kill la Kill, which she is from, is made by the same people who did Gurren Lagann. And for double bonus points, Trigger, which is behind Kill la Kill, did the opening for Project X Zone.
Q: How can Panty & Stocking and Scanty & Kneesock play out, since they're each two-man characters?
A: You know the Ice Climbers in Super Smash Bros.? Chili and Pepper from Battle Monsters? Noob Smoke from Mortal Kombat Deception? Ferra/Torr from the upcoming Mortal Kombat X? Those are dou characters. Panty and Stocking would be dou characters here and so would Scanty and Kneesock.
Q: About PTX-04A and Gurren Lagann?
A: Like in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, both PTX-04A and Gurren Lagann are giant character, either of which can be fought in stage 4 in arcade mode.
Q: Speaking of Gurren Lagann, where the hell is Simon?
A: Simon is actually in the game... only he's piloting the Gurren Lagann character. So this doesn't mean Simon is not really in the game. He's just inside the mecha.

Why no Asuka? It'd be amusing to think of how she and Mega Man Classic/X would become the game's equivalents of K. Rool and Ridley if this roster came true. And meanwhile, the "6 Gurren Lagann reps" would be the equivalent of the "6 Fire Emblem reps" scapegoat.

I consider Medaka more Jump than Gainax, but I totally agree that Ryuko is the must-have guest character of a Gainax x-over. I kinda pictured Simon commanding Lagann like Tron does with the Gustaff, but seeing Gurren Lagann itself is cool too. Still miss having Eva Unit 01 here though. So any end boss in mind? I'm guessing the Anti-Spiral, something Eva related, Sigma, Pyron, or something Asura Wrath related.
