Well this is my entry for *00X181-033-4-9953XX3 's contest for the evil Raelian sexybutt.Coming up with a colour scheme was pretty tough, originally was going to have purple feathers with orange and blue but eh purple seemed to blend to much with the blue and made him look less colourful. And he does have scales like all Raelian's, not fur or skin, I just fail at drawing full body scales and I didn't really want to test my sanity against them (I can do them when push comes to shove, but everyone knows what scales look like
). Feathers are on my hate list too but I think I did ok with them.Oh and the scar, I'm pretty happy with how gruesome that looks. :'D

Awesome use of primary colors! Very tropical which is suitable for something which is essentially a feathered dragon. Heh, probably eats toucans and cockatiels . . . . .
The wings of course are stunning, and that thick pink scar actually made me wince.

I dont want to sound like I'm pointing any fingers, but its going to drive me nuts, whats did you use as reference for the body?

The body is a modified version of this sketch I did [link] which in turn I used my own ref sheet as reference [link] , modifying the arms and legs slightly.
I'm not taking your comment as a hostile action, but I'd like to know what brought it about if that's ok? Because I've been having a lot of people point fingers at me recently and its kind of disconcerting to say the least.

Ah right I see. I only ask because I have a photographic memory and when I find an image rings a bell but I can't find the actual reference used for, it frustrates me.
I'm glad your not because I made sure to say I wasn't 'pointing fingers'! xD If you took it as hostile after that, I'd have to faceplant my keyboard xD

For me its the little details and such which seem to emulate someone elses style, like I said I couldn't put my finger on it but if I cant find it (unholy image nerd I am) then it probably doesn't exist xD

Sorry you had me worried there for a moment, but I didn't want to jump to any conclusions before anything else was said.
I also forgot to mention I did reference some of the Raelian art *00X181-033-4-9953XX3 has already done just to get him looking at least close to the race he is supposed to be from. Though I think I did a poor job on that lol
Yes anyway, I'm not entirely sure what's happening but I've had a few people noting me and accusing me of stealing various peoples works (Neither of which I'll mention publicly in comments) to which no proof was provided. Its very hard to be able to draw anything without someone accusing you of stealing one of the 'big name' dragon artists work somehow, be it likeness of pose or horn design even if they are real naturally occurring designs in nature. And its very surprising how uncivil people can get over it even if its a completely false accusation, I'm trying to build a good reputation for myself on this site after having left for a few years, I wouldn't be stupid enough to steal or trace art and destroy it in an instant.
Better stop that there before I get into a really long rant. XD

Lol I'm sorry! I should probably stop asking people because they do get very 'Ahh!' and I'm left waving my hands going 'Thats not what I meant!' xD But if I don't ask, it bothers me for hours on end xD
Ah right that makes more sense, it probably explains the feeling of similiarity. Many of the Raelian's I've seen so far have been referenced from some of the other dragon artists around here.

I know exactly how you feel. People often forget that everyone uses everything from everyone else. That was alot of 'e' words! But yes anyway. Weither people mean to or not, snippets of art they've seen are carried over into their own artwork. It happens to everyone and alot more than they might think. Its not a copy by any means, but the traits are still there. So people use and re-use things they've seen recently. I actually need to re-do Skihlairk for that reason...plus lookit those tiny wrists Dx
It drills it home when the people pointing the fingers don't actually have any solid evidence xD
They can get hugely uncivil, itys baffeling really. when tehy do I usually write them off as Trolls. Many people just want to sound off without any actual cause or understanding.

hayyy sorry for butting in, but really? D: I never did notice (unless they used my refs for reference, which I do notice, but its mostly credited and I don't really mind that much)
Could you possibly point me towards any who have traced in a note? I'm not going to get on their cases about it since I don't really have a say in it if they have traced another artist's work, but I'm just curious.

But yes, I definitely know how that one goes, I've seen many people 'reuse' poses off others and even myself but you can't really get angry at them because itβs just a pose. I don't take offence to it either because when all is said and done you really can't help but drawing a pose someone else may have already drawn, itβs inevitable. (I think Iβve done it in the past having never seen the art before in my life, and its just even more likely with refsheets). Not to mention I think some things are subconsciously done, which I don't blame people for either. What I hate is tracing, where its completely clear things have been traced exactly, definitely not good.
I don't think you should stop asking people if you are curious, I was probably overly defensive to be honest but its hard not to be with the whole art thief going on around here heavily these days.

Yes exactly. Plus I think it also lends itself to logic, theres a logical away to pose a character to best show off its characteristics and design aspects :3
With the example I posted you before I more meant the shapes and general similairities rather than the pose although it was a large factor, but both tie in hand in hand so :3
I think re-using a pose is alright, but what alot of people do is actually re-use/copy the 'flesh' of the critter they're referencing. Stick-manning a pose is alright, but other than that I think thats where problems come in :3
I hope people leave you alone soon, its never fun being on the reciving end of, not only idiots but idiots with no reason or evidence.

And yea, with regards to the shapes I'm not really sure, I'd imagine anatomy can only go so far until it begins to look odd and not right even if you aren't going for a realistic style. But maybe I'm just too new to drawing muscles and what not in correct places. XD
I'm not to bothered by the fact people seem to be getting on my back about things like this because they haven't been able to enforce their claims, that and I know its just not true so I guess only thing that can be done is ride it out.

Well, from what she has already explained below you can see, it's been suddenly happening a lot recently. I didn't mean to offend, it just appeared like a hint of an accusation to me at the time. There wasn't really an explanation behind the comment so all I had was all i saw and knew, in my defense.

Still I sit by my comment. I clearly said I wasnt pointing any fingers. If you dont have all of the information or facts and arn't prepared to ask for them first, I wouldn't comment. That sounds nasty but its true. When I'm in doubt, I ask before I start putting my defenses up.

This is definitely my favorite entry thus far. I looooove his tail feahters and the way their color spikes up into the blue. His markings in general are also just awesome. You really did a great job on his expression too; he looks so haughty. <3
