This is my entry for Saimain's contest.

Edit: It placed 5th!!! (I'm so appreciative, happy, and honored by this: it's beyond words!) Thanks to everyone who gave me encouraging words and their support, and I send out my appreciation and admiration for the other participants in the contest, for I noticed it really brought out the best in many of you. And finally, thank you so much for hosting it, Saimain.

Faeren is enjoying the experience of feeling an afternoon rain fall upon him, while Snoots, his pet, is mesmerized by the locals.

I wanted to illustrate a possible phase in Faeren's integration into the Forest of Illusions, which would be true to the theme and be noticeably distinguished from the rest of the entries.

I did my absolute best to cover all the judging criteria (character accuracy, theme, and attention to detail) and to be creative with what I had to work with.

I figured Faeren's acceptance of his unique relationship with the forest could be expressed metaphorically if he were to enjoy sharing his connection with it. And I thought to myself, "What better way to depict this than to have them both enjoying the rain!"

The *x-point perspective was also an aspect intended to be true to the theme. I think and hope it gives the forest an illusion-like feeling to it.

Please check out and appreciate all the detail that went into this. Many of the objects in this art piece were first-time attempts at such things: moss, butterflies, fish, different types of trees and vegetation, forest depth, forest floor, looking underwater... pretty much everything you see here, including the perspective effect. I suppose I really put my heart and soul into this one : )
