Don't forget that one line from wings of liberty either in the zerg research tank or the perdition turret's fluff text where it mentions zerg burrow by vibrating enough to loosen the terrain around them. Just imagine an ultralisk vibrating intense enough to slowly sink into the ground like quicksand.

They're still going to die when they shoot them because there are more burrowed zergs than a group of marines. If they're banelings, GG

Funny how the strongest land unit in the game is helpless without any form of army support...

Isnt that true with everything in that game, if you send out only one unit against their whole army then you deserve to lose no offence

Consider terran. If you build a whole bunch of Thors or BCs, they're guaranteed to do serious damage even on their own. Or if protoss builds carriers, a whole pack of them, that's enormously powerful (not cost effective, but still). Build a bunch of ultras without lingbane support, and they're useless.Β

im zerg all the way. I don't touch the ultras unless I feel I need a unit or two to make my army seem twice as big that and I really think of them as worthless tanks. they take the damage while I rape them with hydras

Now that we're in HotS, ultras are actually viable if you have the economy to back it up. Mainly against terran; few ZvP build let you go melee because there's too many allins from toss you can't hold without roaches and hydras, and becauze ZvZ is likewise roach oriented.

Not really actually when I play terran I have never really ever touched Thors (I go bio with medvacs) and I have never, ever, ever seen BC's be used though I haven't played many rounds of ST2 lately so its not saying much but ive never seen a professionals use them either. But its all about the situation really they all have uses but if you're going to sink in money on one stratagy you're going to have to make sure that it will be effective. For instance a bunch of multlisks can beat every single mellee unit in the game but if the enemy has anti air you have wasted the resources that could of been used for an upgrade which would have made your ground units stronger while being ground units makes the enemies anti air useless whilst also making your units stronger against their ground forces as well. A bunch of zerglings can take out a thor with the right upgrades and a bunch of hydras can take out a carrier with their respective upgrades, its all about army compisition and what unit counters the enemies units and focus the stratagy around that. One unit will never, ever be able to win the gold ive seen too many people think plainly buying the most expensive thing on the menu will win you the game theres a lot more depth involved.

I was just addressing how massed ultis go in terms of cost efficiency. Thors have seen a resurgence in the recent meta as an addition to bio/biomine MMM- you move it up with your army, stim your marines and marauders and move behind the thor, which tanks a lot of damage. BC are rarely seen outside extreme lategame situations, mainly in tvt, usually with ravens- mainly because they are so slow.Β
Ultras are better than they used to be back in WoL, but they're still positively awful without support. Stimmed bio can kite it all day long, mech will just murder it straight up... and protoss death balls are really good against them, too. You always need infestors and lots of lings to make them work.Β
As for buying the most expensive things- it's only down in bronze/silver people do that. Everywhere else, people know how to counter that easily.Β

I've played HOTS, the Swarm host can't burrow unless you ''upgrade'' them to do so, but an ultralisk can burrow and yet it's invisible despite it's size.
