Description Another shot of the lovely Poly This time I used a mirror I got the idea from *editha although his pics with a mirror are much better (he uses the sky in his mirrors(very cool)) Go check him out if you get a minute Anyways, I kinda like it might try more things with this technique

To know more about Poly you can read it in my journal here>>>>>[link]

Polyphemus Moth is one of our biggest moths, growing up to a 5 1/2 inch wingspan. [link] Properly Antheraea polyphemus, this giant of a moth is named after the legendary Cyclops of the same name from Homer's Odyssey. (Remember - the fierce one-eyed giant who lived in a cave and tended sheep and ate straying sailors?) These large moths are found in the Puget Sound area, though they are not terribly common; in fact, they're nearly extinct in areas with lots of street lights. When you only have a week to mate and lay your eggs, wasting time circling a light (and making a tempting banquet for bats) is not healthy! [link] and [link]

Oh my ...I was just reading, that you liked the Luna Moth......, and I have seen it many times.... Even resting under my deck....for several hours...If I would have known better,...I could have photographed and share the pic with you. Maybe it will come again, and I will take my chance.

Wow~wow~wow... Such clarity and vibrance in color...stunning...ok, you have absolutely 100% re-newed my faith in Sony and myself Thank you!
Moths are so under-rated...Like you, my fav being the Luna moth...such a sight to see. I've had good luck in the fact that I have seen a couple few in my day but...bad luck in never having my camera with me to capture the moment.

Thank you

I am so glad My best advice I could give you is play with the manual settings I found I liked my pics better. Like for instance this is a long exposure. I had no clue I could do long exposures with the Sony till hubby showed me It also takes pretty cool pics of water with long exposure. You just have to be patient and play with the length of time and of course have a tripod.

You are most welcome! And thank you so much for the advice I agree, I never seem to care for the image quality using the "Auto" settings, I have been experimenting with the "Manual" settings and have been noticing a huge difference.

is the mirror actually black? from where did u get it? looks really cool

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GeodeLady In reply to cansrox [2005-04-01 18:50:38 +0000 UTC]

No, it's not black. I took a sheet and hung it up to create a black "room". I even covered the ceiling so I would not catch its' reflection. It helps to create the true black look with no unwanted lighting. Thank you

cansrox In reply to GeodeLady [2005-04-01 21:16:07 +0000 UTC]

but then the pic should have be darker than it is

GeodeLady In reply to cansrox [2005-04-01 21:17:38 +0000 UTC]

You just have to play with different lighting where you want it
