Description My second stamp.

As a detail-oriented artist, I know from experience that sometimes a single drawing takes hours or even days to get just right. When the final piece is uploaded to deviantART, it's more than just art; it's an accomplishment, a testament to our dedication. But mostly, it brings a sense of pride to show the world the fruits of our labour. The problem is that we only show the finished product, and not the effort that went into it.

I know I won't be the first to admit that I really enjoy getting comments on my work. But I can't help feel a little disheartened when a lot of the comments are one or two words long. I'm sure many artists like hearing anything positive, but I know they'd really appreciate hearing why their work was "cute", "awesome", or "cool".

It doesn't have to be much. Talk about what comes to mind when you look at the picture, ask a question, write what any people/characters might be thinking, or pick one thing that stands out for you and mention that. You can even say what you thought could be done better, as long as you do it politely. Engaging conversation is often the most enjoyable.

A lot of time and effort goes into making art that people enjoy. Let's take the time to say why we enjoy it.

This stamp is free to use; copy and paste the thumbnail code into your journals, comments, etc.

I'm totally going to use this! I just hate it when people leave a one word comment and that's it.Β
I really would like to hear what they think about my art.. onoΒ

Oh, I just wanted to add this before I go to bed tonight.

I love how the words kinda speed up as the stamp moves towards the final animations.

Kinda reminds you of how the feedback that's written is just quick and stuff. I also like the "Love It!"'s kinda flashy thing.

Or how we tend to get the idea of short comments pretty quickly...

Thanks It's fun to play around with stamps.

I'm more guilty of a fave and run kinda thing.

I try to leave insightful comments when I can/feel the need.

But most of them turn out really derpy.

I kinda like this stamp because (I don't want to sound like an attention hog here, but) I kinda don't get that many comments, but when I do, it's usually just one worded comments like these. So that can kinda frustrate me sometimes, but I do appreciate that they took the time to say what they thought about my art.Β

sorry Γ³.Γ²

sometimes i just cant just let out more than one word because it's the only one that comes out. your art is truly great and impressive on many levels, but that's why i cant let out more than a "COOOL!! " or a "awesome! "

I hope this stamp isn't coming across as just for me. Β I'm encouraging people to expand their writings wherever they go on dA. Β Art deserves appreciation, and unique comments are more special than single words.

Not to say I don't appreciate the one-worders. Β I just wish there were fewer of them on a site devoted to creativity.

And thanks

Whether the artist replies right away or at all depends on the person and the situation, too. They may have lots of other comments to sift through, or they've already answered a question in the description or elsewhere...

It's easy to assume the artist is being rude, because they aren't being as polite as we'd like (namely, responding quickly and nicely). But we shouldn't think they mean to be rude.

I wouldn't let a few unacknowledged comments dampen your spirits! Give good comments because the art deserves it, and if you get a reply, all the better!

The whole "shy" part kinda reminds me of how I would wear my Powerpuff Girls shirt to school when I get the chance to. XP

Probably because I'd be shy in some ways (Can't say I socialize a lot), but not when it comes to things like that for some reason.Β

I know this stamp is more about deviantart comments, but I think this statement may be relevant, too........right? (My apologies if the entire comment has been coming off as sorta off-topic)

Ah yes, I know these comments well from both receiving and giving them It's nice to have conversations about the picture, but sometimes it's hard to think of what to say I guess. I know I do it more often with people I know because I want them to know that I saw and enjoyed the picture but didn't know what to say about it, since not everyone checks to see who faved what when it's all lumped together into a nice stack.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeoffNET In reply to JKSketchy [2013-10-17 17:08:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know it's hard to come up with clever comments all the time. And I'll admit I've said my fair share of "Awesome!"s and "Cute!"s.

I appreciate every comment I get, no matter how short or long it is; I really do. But with a lot of them being one word, they start to sound clichΓ©.

I don't expect everyone to write a paragraph of detail on everything they like; I just want to encourage them to say something more unique now and then.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JKSketchy In reply to GeoffNET [2013-10-18 00:09:01 +0000 UTC]

Naw, I get it I'm just saying I'm guilty of it myself. Comments are always nice, but when you get a paragraph it's so much better cause a picture of yours or something you said really got someone to think. It's nothing against the short comments, it's just that long ones are exceptionally nice.

I guess people just don't have anything to say, but they want you to acknowledge that you are an active watcher by commenting instead of staying silent. I don't really comment one worded comments. I feel that work deserves more than just the obvious "CUTE" "Awesome" thing..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeoffNET In reply to SugarBubbles2000 [2013-10-20 06:21:42 +0000 UTC]

Any positive comment is nicer than no comment at all. And the more unique the comment, the better!

I really like this stamp.

You know, I've been getting comments like this, and yes, I get simply reply a thanks to get rid of that trouble. I am certainly gonna use this stamp next time.

The speed of the words made it look cool to me, espiacially ( sorry for wrong spelling but I don't know how to spell that word ) the " LOVE Β IT " effect.

Thank you! Β I'm glad other people can relate to this.

I'm not saying everyone needs to start writing 100 words in every comment, but more thoughtful comments would be nice now and then.

MawileMage [2013-10-16 10:02:45 +0000 UTC]

I'm going to be completely honest: I tend to leave comments like that because I really can't think of anything more creative or in-depth to say, but at the same time, I don't want to feel bad by not commenting at all.

GeoffNET In reply to MawileMage [2013-10-20 06:17:52 +0000 UTC]

If I can't pull a reference to a Song or a bit ... I'll just say somthin's "cute" and leave it at that. Β Why? ... Why Ask Why?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeoffNET In reply to WingDiamond [2013-10-16 03:08:15 +0000 UTC]

Laconic comments are too ubiquitous. Β Since anyone can write them, they tend to lose their meaning after a while.

Liking a deviation is implied when you favourite it. Β Comments are an outlet for explanations.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WingDiamond In reply to GeoffNET [2013-10-17 02:20:53 +0000 UTC]

For me, the comment box is for me to work in some kind of joke or "Pop-culture reset" (sometimes very obscure) that I think (hope) will add to the discussion. Β That's the reason why on the "3 Features Thang" wingdiamond.deviantart.com/gal… I pick the dev's not on what I think are the best or "Cutest" ones but what I can work the best "ref" on. Doesn't always work though, some of my fellow deviants (who will remain nameless) often times don't "get" the joke. Β

The sad part is getting the same comments over and over. Β I'm glad when someone finds my art "cute" for the tenth time, but I wouldn't mind knowing why. Β It's so much more meaningful.
