Can't stop progress.. Allthough I hate eclipse as much as you, I don't think they will listen - All those 'big' sites are becoming more and more disconnected from their users and blidly adhere to the marketing standards. I think one of main culprits to blame is Apple - their marketing team proved that you can sell absolute garbage if you make the design sleek and shiny, and advertise it as a luxury item that is essential to your social status.
We can only hope that standards will change soon, and somehow, the 'functionality first, visual design later, and we listen what people want' mentality will once again be present in executives minds
