Description Part One of my tutorial for Cid Highwind's spear from Advent Children. This spear is collapsible. The spear head comes off and the spear haft folds in half for easy transport.

Please comment with any questions you have and I'll try my best to answer them! I included as many photos as I could of the process, but I made this spear about 3-ish years ago and didn't document the entire process as in depth as I'd like.

Also if you find any typos, let me know and I will fix them.

Thanks, and enjoy!

I love you.

This is exactly what I need.
Okay, so technically I'm going to be cosplaying original!Cid not AC!Cid but hey, the spears are pretty damn similar >_> <_<

Again, you are AWESOME!

I'm so glad you found it useful ^__^ Let me know if you have any specific questions about the tutorial as you make the spear. This method can really be used for any spear of a similar design, so any of Cid's weapons from the game should be able to be made using this method (ok, except maybe his broom XDD)

The only thing I'm a bit frustrated about is the wonderflex, I can't get that. Any idea what I could use in its stead? I was thinking... follow the basic design, but instead of the wonderflex, layer up papier-mache with and wire armature to reinforce it a bit, then either make sure that is VERY solid or layer air-drying clay over the top of that. I'm more tempted to smooth out and just used papier-mache as knowing me I'll crack, smash or otherwise destroy clay very fast D=

Paper mache would definitely work. It's not as durable as the Wonderflex + clay by far, but it's not bad, and it will work just fine as long as you're not planning to take any long trips with the spear shoved into a plane's cargo hold or anything (I find that paper mache over poster board can't take a lot of stress, so it eventually cracks and dents).

If using paper mache, make sure to use a hard coat finish such as Hard Coat Mod Podge or something similiar. Regular gloss sprays or polyurethane finishes are too flexible and won't help protect the poster board underneath.

Aye, I'm just trying to find some goggles and the tealish shirt at the moment. Trying to make a quick costume for a Final Fantasy XIII midnight launch party :3

Looks really awesome though
