getty — Practice 2: In the sunset

Finished in 2005, Feburary.Started for the purpose of learning how I paint things affected by a paticular color(ambient orange in this case), this only took two weeks to finish, a dramatically fast record for a guy who usually needs one month for even VGA size pic. Furthermore, though I was always getting cold feet to start painting background scene(because...I don't like it
), this time it really went smoothly, so smooth that I did paint the sky and the water serface drinking so much beer!!When I posted this picture to a Japanese CG-mailing list, a high skilled guy pointed out that the lines of shoulder looks strange. I agree. When I was working on this part I didn't recognize, but then being pointed out I thought, "Shoo...he's right." Was I disappointed? No, because the point of this pic is not the shoulder, but the fact that I no longer feel fear to paint background scenes!!

I tried the tutorial you used this as an example for. I'm not done yet, though. When I am I'll show you! Please criticize it when i get there. Just the coloring though, not the lineart.

The background itself is great,and I noticed as well the lines of the shoulder. They are a bit un-natural looking o.o. Really nice coloring,and the color blending is great~

The calmness and serenity of the background scene fits the subject very well. Lovely girl too. Exquisitely done. Never mind the shoulder glitch, this is awesome overall.^^
Dang, this artwork is way light-years ahead than most of us will ever do.
I may say it will suffice enough for my need to improve so I'll probably study this one and try to pick up as much ideas from here. Thanks.
