Description:

The flame spitter is a large species of drake that inhabits the northern parts of North America.

It is a large animal with adults coming in at 3.7 meters tall, 9 meters long, weighing 2 metric tonnes in muscle, and can still run at 40 km/h. It boasts a large hump on its back that stores fat, more on that later, throughout spring, summer, and early autumn it boasts a brown coloration with a light draconfuzz cover on the back of the animal. During these months they will mostly stay in Canada, feeding on bears, salmon, moose, and other species of dragon. However, when winter comes, they will migrate north while also going through a hormonal change that causes their fur to turn from a light cover of brown fuzz to a thick coat of white draconfuzz. Additionally, it is around this time that the mother will abandon their pups

Life cycle:

The life of a Flame spitter can go two ways, it dies young, or it dies old. But all of them start during the first months of spring, mating season, during these few weeks, hundreds of flame spitters will gather to mate after traveling back to Canada. Males will engage in brutal fights for mating rights; however, these rarely result in any fatalities. The losers will either leave while the victors can mate with any female so long as they allow him to. After mating, the male will continue to live his life, but the female will carry the eggs for 3 months and then find a cave to lay the eggs in. Flame spitters often lay no more than two eggs, but some nests have been found with just one. After the eggs are laid, the mother will hide them and mark the surrounding with urine so that it knows where the eggs are while also scaring away any intruders. It will take another 3 months for the eggs to hatch, and the mother will switch between hunting and protecting the nest from predators. After the eggs hatch, the babies (known as pups) are already capable of walking and running and will stick with their mother for 6 more months, learning how to survive from their mother. Throughout their childhood, the stronger sibling will pick on and even steal food from the weaker one. This results in the weaker sibling either dying of starvation or even being killed by the older sibling, the mother couldn’t care less and will continue to feed the stronger one. It may seem cruel, but such is life. By winter, the runt will have perished, and the remaining pup will stay with its mother throughout the winter months. If it survives it will reach adolescence by march and will leave its mother. Its final test will come in its second winter. It will have to hunt down a white terror, this is a coming of age for  the drake and will determine whether it will survive or not since clashes between these apex predators will always, always, result in death, be it the white terror or the flame spitter. If the Flame spitter lives, it will be able to pass on its genes, and the life cycle will restart.

Special abilities:

Apart from being a very strong animal, to begin with, like most dragons, it possesses a ranged weapon. This comes in the form of a flame breath, or rather, a flame spit. This drake can fire a stream of flaming oil that can travel up to 15 meters which aids it in its mostly melee fighting style. This oil is generated from the fats that it stores in its hump. It obtains these fats by eating a lot of fatty animals such as bears and salmon while also eating the fat-rich bone marrow by crushing bones with its tremendously powerful bite to get to it. Additionally, the entire point of trying to kill a white terror is to get to the thick layer of fat under its skin that keeps the colossal wyvern warm. When the liquid is fired it instantly oxidizes and ignites. This is because it uses excess nitric acids it gets from consuming meat as an oxidizer, mixing it with the fuel to allow it to ignite. This flame spit proves to be an effective weapon; however, the Flame spitter will avoid using it excessively to not run out of the fat in its hump as this will cause the body to start burning the fats surrounding its organs.

Physical capabilities:

Apart from its fire spit, the Flame spitter is a very strong animal. preferring close-range combat and only rarely using its fire attack, this animal is no pushover, and with its 2-ton weight, it is very difficult to knock over. Adults can run at 40km/h and can topple small to medium trees with ease. Their main weapon is their bone-breaking bite that can crush smaller animals.

Behavior:

Flame spitters are known to be highly territorial, especially when rearing their young. It exhibits this behavior around anything, even other flame spitters. The only time it will allow other flame stalkers near it is during the mating season
